The Galata Tower is the most prominent feature on the skyline over the Golden Horn of Istanbul. It was originally built in the 6th century to monitor shipping. After the conquest of Istanbul in 1453, it was used as a prison and depot, then as a fire tower. Today, it offers spectacular views of the city, as well as a posh restaurant where you can see a live "Turkish Nights" show.
