Part of the Byzantine Great Palace (discovered in the 1930s) was where the Arasta Bazaar is today, in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. The surviving mosaics date to around 550 AD, and depicts activities of daily life, including play, fighting, pastoral scenes and hunting.
