Hello,

I'm planning on buying an apartment in Turkey and obtaining a short-term residence permit. I also plan on renewing it until I can apply for a long-term permit. I read that family permits are given to spouses and children but I couldn't find any information regarding parents. I'd like to know if it'd possible to obtain a family residence permit for my mother and what the procedure for that would be like. Thanks.

Also I don't know if it makes any difference but I'm an Indian citizen and I know that some countries are a bit hesitant towards accepting Indians (rightfully so).

Family residence permits are only for the spouse and children. However, if you are legally appointed as a caregiver to your mother, then she could get get one. But there would be no advantage to having a family residence permit in her case, so she will be getting an short-term residence permit as well.

The only advantage of the family residence permit is its three-year duration. However, family residence permits expire whenever the sponsor's residence permit expires, so even if she was able to get a family residence permit it would expire when your short-term residence permit expires, so there would be no advantage to having one anyway.

You don't even need to buy an apartment, you can rent one instead, but I think those who buy properties might have more of a chance of getting a residence permit. Personally, I have lived in Turkey for over 15 years and never bought any property. So I should mention this here. You can apply, but whether it is approved or not is completely up to the Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM). The immigration specialists who handle the applications look at each person, and situation individually. So technically, I cannot say "yes, you will get a residence permit." I can only say "yes, you can apply for a residence permit."

Both you, and your mother, will have to apply for your own residence permits, separately. If you apply at around the same time on the same day, you might be able to get appointments on the same day, but they will be separate appointments.

May I ask in what province of Turkey you will be applying?
