It's a first application, and you can apply for it any time. You don't have to wait until your short-term residence gets close to expiring. The sooner you apply the better, since it can take several months to a year to get the approval, last I heard was around seven months. It takes longer since the long-term residence permit is kind of like citizenship.

Have a look at this article section: Long Term Residence Permits

One difference with the long-term residence permits is that you have to show that you have not received social assistance. There is also an article there which tells you where you need to go and what you need to get.

Thanks for answering.

If i apply, the systems automatically say if i can get the permit ?

I don't remember exactly when i asked my 1st application.  Only know near 8 years.

No, unfortunately it does not automatically say if you can get the long term residence permit, you just have to wait for it to be issued or rejected.

I'm in the same boat. I was going to apply for it last year but waited until this year to be sure (I had a break in my residence around eight years ago). I did just apply for an extension on my short-term residence permit, as soon as I get that I'll apply for a long-term one myself.

Yes i can apply to citizenchip too. I am looking all possibilities. and my turkish is not very good too.

So i have one other question. i am going to renew my ikamet (it will be finished in 2 months.)

I am going on web site but it says me there is no ikamet with theses informations.

Somebody told me i need update my card because there is no photo on it (i made it 2 years ago). do you know about this?

Could you explain more about what you mean?

I understand the new residence permit cards have a photo on them. I just submitted an application for my new residence permit. The residence permit card I have now has no photo on it. It is not a problem.

Just renew your residence permit when the time comes and you will be okay.

Time  to renew my ikamet cames and the system tell me this :

" Girmiş olduğunuz bilgilerle eşleşen, uzatılabilecek herhangi bir ikamet izni kaydı bulunamamıştır. Bilgilerinizi kontrol ederek tekrar deneyiniz. "

My friend told me old ikamets with no photo don't work with system and need update them in ikamet office.

Legleg, there can be two reasons you are getting this message, one is that you are trying in excess of 60 days before the expiry date on your RP,secondly it may be an I.T problem which at present is prolific.... As for you keep mentioning about having no photo on your card....trust me it has nothing at all to do with this.

An "IT" problem is an "information technology" problem. Or easier said, a "computer system problem."

I don't know what the problem is in your case, but I also tried to renew my residence permit using the Turkish government system. I was also unsuccessful.

So I went in person to the Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM) [or Göç İdaresi]). I gave my information to one of their immigration specialists there, and she got on her computer and did it for me.

Of course I still needed to mail my documents to the Antalya DGMM, even though I was there standing in front of an immigration specialist.

I am about to start the application process for a long-term residence permit. Has anyone that has made an application any comments that they can share? Such has how the actual process may differ from the declared one, time to  complete etc?

Thanks
