Turkish girlfriend - Advice on moving to the UK

Greetings all

I'm a 21 year old brit currently living in the UK. My girlfriend is a 23 year old turk and we are very much in love. We met online and I won't go into too many details but suffice to say we are very close and at this point we genuinely believe we were meant for each other. We talk every day over Skype and do a lot of nerdy things together like gaming since its a way to have fun despite the distance. Both of us are currently looking for work or further education so we have the freedom to talk all day which is why we are so close.

I'll get to the point though.

We want to be together and we've been looking for ways to do that. I read a few similar threads on here so I'll get some of the compatibility details out of the way before I go any further. She isn't religious and considers herself an atheist the same as me, we share all the same hobbies and interests and it is very rare for our opinion on something to differ, she doesn't like the state Turkey is in for various reasons and wants to move abroad, or rather she feels like she can't or is totally unwilling to stay. Her family want her to move abroad too and are in full support. Ideally she is interested in moving to the UK so we can live together or worst case scenario at least be in the same country so visits aren't as difficult.

As I said we've been looking at ways to make that happen and a lot of it is very discouraging. I thought I should post somewhere like this and get some advice, preferably from those who have been through something similar or seen similar things. We would love to get a list of all the potential options for her to be able to move here and work or go into further education through a scholarship.

For the sake of including important info I should say she is well educated and is a qualified English teacher. She has an impressive CV and is very motivated and hard working.

We found some sites catering to getting a job abroad but had no luck in that matter, she also emailed some universities in the UK regarding scholarships and didn't have much luck in that either. The one thing I'm sure she could pull off is the Businessperson Visa but it requires a certain amount of finances to be sure you can support yourself which she currently doesn't have in that amount.

So are there any tips, tricks or things we may have missed? Does anyone know any websites or organisations which could help her find a job or internship in the UK or somewhere with scholarships that we may have overlooked? We are looking for anything even remotely close to this or anything else which springs to mind which may be helpful advice or something to look into.

All we want is to be together. It's the most sure about something we've ever been in our lives. We would love to be together as soon as possible and we figure going all out and finding a way to be together long term is better than just thinking about odd trips to see each other every few months.

I hope some of you folks can help!

It's going to be really hard...she might be able to get a tourist visa but even those are hard to come by. Being an English teacher won't help much, even if her English is completely fluent - there are already plenty of qualified teachers in the UK not even including all those from the EU who are allowed to work there.

Sorry not meaning to put you off, just being realistic. I know many couples, even married ones with children, who live in Turkey because it's become so difficult for people who aren't from the EU to move there.

That's quite alright, we already know how difficult things could potentially be which is why I posted here to see if there are any other ways people are aware of. Also I mentioned she is an English teacher just to show she has qualifications and is hard working, I didn't mean that is the kind of job she'd be looking for in the UK.

Hello Aeryes,

Welcome to the Forum

Have you tried the Turkish/Turkic speaking Embassy/consulates in the UK? e.g. Azerbaijan etc

Additionally you can search for Turkish firms who operate in the UK or vice versa - travel agencies who specialise in Turkic countries etc.

Good luck

Hi,

Some options could be;

Opening a business in the UK, with or without the use of the Ankara Agreement http://www.abgs.gov.tr/?p=117&l=2

https://www.gov.uk/turkish-business-person/overview

https://www.gov.uk/turkish-business-person/eligibility

If a company is willing to process a work permit for her, then eventually she can remain with this https://www.gov.uk/turkish-worker/eligibility

Jobs for Turks

http://www.jobisjob.co.uk/london/turkish/jobs

http://www.reed.co.uk/jobs/language/turkish

UK working visas, maybe she can qualify for one

https://www.gov.uk/browse/visas-immigration/work-visas

  • Maybe you both can consult immigration lawyers with an expertise for UK immigration law concerning Turkish nationals.
