Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Gezi Park Anniversary Demonstrations

Recommended Posts

Warden message from the US Embassy, Ankara:

Various Turkish news and social media are reporting that demonstrations will take place in cities in Turkey on Saturday, May 31, the anniversary of the Gezi Park protests of 2013.  The U.

S. Embassy informs U.

S. citizens traveling or residing in Turkey to be alert to the potential for violence on and around May 31, and to avoid areas where large crowds appear to be gathering.  U.

S. citizens are urged to avoid demonstrations and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations.  Everyone should practice astute personal security awareness and remain vigilant at all times. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.

Be sure to attend, gas masks are availabe at many of your favorite downtown merchants, wear fireproof coveralls and thick gloves (for returning "hot" gas canisters to their source), wear high-top lace-up boots, and a top-grade motorcycle helmet. Leave all identification at home and make sure your next of kin have proof positive of your attendance at this event by taking "selfies" with a date and time stamp on them every 15 minutes and uploading them. Bring along at least two small video cameras in the event one gets smashed in the melee and upload the videos immediately. Bring a picnic basket, loads of fun courtesy of the AKP. Posted Image

I love these "warden" messages. Who is the warden anyway? Defined: "the chief official in charge of a prison"

The warning "avoid areas where large crowds appear to be gathering" is really a great warning for Istanbul since large crowds gather everywhere.
