I read the other day that Marks and Spencer were opening a second store in Bodrum, so I looked the Marks and Spencer home page and was really surprised that there were over forty M&S stores already in Turkey. I was also very surprised at the prices which are two or three times more expensive than in the UK.http://corporate.mar...ational_stores#Compare the prices between M&S UK and M&S Turkeyhttp://www.marksands...mens/b/42967030http://www.marksands...utograph-11681/The strange thing is I have bought garments from M&S in their UK store which say " Made in Turkey" so why the big mark up for Turkish /expat customers ?

Marks & Spencer has been in Turkey for a few years now and even advertise on Turkish TV. A lot of people complain about the prices because they are a lot more expensive than the UK and a lot of the things are made in Turkey. Maybe they charge higher prices knowing they can get away with it. I just wish they sold food like they do in the UK, but goodness what they would charge for that.

The price thing is annoying but I can't stop going in there and buying my pants. I also bought a dressing gown in there last week. They are expensive but they are very high quality, I think, compared to the other brands in Turkey.

I knew Marks and Spencer had been in Turkey for sometime but what surprised me was how many branches there were and some of the locations. My OH always refers to the M&S stores in Turkey as "Marks Expensive" !

Such stores always make a huge margin in other countries where they export (or produce in a country) their collections. In Russia margins reach 200 - 400 %. A lot of people arrange shopping tours in Europe and it comes to seem more profitable than buying in the country (Russia). I could not imagine that in Turkey is a similar situation.
