  1. It's illegal to work in Turkey without a work permit. Some employers may hire you to work illegally, since they won't have to register you with the Sosyal Güvenlik Kurumu (Social Security Administration) or pay anything towards your healthcare, retirement, or other benefits. It's strictly a cash deal, paid after you provide your services. Your employer might not pay you at all. You'll be helpless to do anything about it, since you'll have no rights to assert. How You Can Get Caught There are three main ways you can get caught working illegally: A surprise inspection of your workplace by the local office of the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Services to check the work permits of any foreigners working there. An anonymous telephone call to the authorities. Anybody can call and report illegal workers. Often it will be a former disgruntled employee or a competitor. The police coming to your residence for some reason and asking a neighbor where you are. Then your neighbor telling them that you're at work. What Will Happen if You Get Caught There will be a hefty fine for both you and your employer. The fine is doubled if an offense is repeated. You may also face being turned over to the Ministry of the Interior for deportation, and being banned from re-entering Turkey for 90 days or more. Turkey's Law on Illegal Workers The authority for government officials to inspect workplaces for illegal workers and the fines which can be imposed comes from the Law on International Workforce, No. 6735. Ken Grubb As a special investigator for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and teacher for the University of Maryland, Ken Grubb has lived and worked in Turkey since 1997. He now lives in Antalya, where he researches and writes guides to help others live skillfully in Turkey.
  2. Are all of the jobs without insurance considered illegal? I mean if someone (like the person I told above) wants to work for 5 months legally, should he find an employer? Which kind of works are legal? I talk about a person who stays with a tourist allowance and want to work.
  3. Can anyone advise the procedure for reporting foreigners working illegally in Turkey. I am aware of numerous people working illegally in a town where I personally know a couple of Turkish people who are out of work and have been unable to find a job. The jobs that the foreigners have taken are positions that can be done by Turkish citizens. The foreigners are also not residents of Turkey and are only there for part of the year on a Tourist Visa. I would really appreciate any help or advice that you are able to give as I do believe that it this situation in not right. Especially because one of the Turkish citizens is struggeling to provide for his family. Thanks in advance for any responses.
  4. I would like to know. If I work there under a tourist visa, (which some say I should leave the country every 3 months) Will I be under the risk of getting deported? fined? not payed by my employer? Also I'm not a US/UK national, I'm from south america
  5. Merhaba arkadaslarI really need some help and do not know where or who to turn to! After working for 17 months for a Turkish company, promises of work permits and insurances have not been put in place. A lot of money is owed to me and I do not know who I can turn to to retrieve the monies that are due or even if I am entitled to receive these monies due to the company not applying for my legal paperwork. If anyone can help me please contact me as I am afraid of what will happen if I carry on this way. Many thanks
