  1. How is it possible for me and my wife to secure job in turkey
  2. Please have a look at these articles if you have questions about how to get a work visa or a work permit. They are a good starting point to learn the basics. 3. Greetings, This is my first post on Turkey Central. After reading through several threads, it's apparent that this is both an open and knowledgeable community. That said, I hope you all will forgive me for asking a question that has already appeared several times in various forms on the forum. At any rate, here it goes... My wife and I will be flying to Istanbul on May 14 with the intention of seeking employment. After some research and speaking with a couple of friends who are currently teaching English in the city, we felt we had a good sense of the bases we would need to cover in order to live and work in Turkey for an extended period of time. However, as luck would have it, only a couple of days after we purchased our plane tickets a member of another forum to which we belong sent a message regarding a new piece of legislation that was passed at the beginning of this month. It seems as though the new law might change where and when a foreigner must apply for a work visa and residence permit. Here's how this pertains to us, personally. We have not yet attained jobs in Turkey. From what we've found, most schools/institutes are reluctant to invest the time in candidates without meeting them face to face. Originally, our friends had told us this wouldn't be a problem. They said we could fly into Istanbul, purchase a tourist visa stamp, apply for a residence permit at a local police station, and then find employment with a school who would help us obtain work visas. This is what they had done, but I am worried it might not be possible now. If it's not, this would essentially mean that most job seekers would fly to Turkey and meet employers on a tourist visa, fly back to the U.S. to apply for a work visa and residence permit, and then fly back to Turkey to work. I'm sincerely hoping this isn't our only option. It's possible I'm interpreting the new legislation incorrectly. Could anyone who is more familiar with these things essentially tell me if my wife and I would be able to obtain the necessary paper work after our arrival or do we basically have four weeks to find a school to vouch for us and make a trip to a Turkish consulate/embassy in the U.S.? We are so very grateful for your perspectives and advice.
  4. Good afternoon, I have been looking at getting work in Turkey specifically Istanbul but am having some problems with understanding what I should do in terms of visa/permits. The last job I applied for required a valid residency permit which I didn't have (and only realised I needed after applying and waiting for a response) and I'm guessing that this requirement is going to be the same for future job applications. My current thoughts of what to do are to maybe apply for a residency permit through the Turkish Consulate in London, saying that I wish to move to Turkey to seek employment, and then once there hunt for a job. If by a minor miracle I can get a job, according to another post on this website it seems I would then be able to get a working visa whilst in Turkey. Is this a viable option, or is there an option out there that would be better suited to my situation? Last summer the consulate website said that it can take 6-8 weeks to get either a working visa or residency permit, and I'd rather have something under my belt when applying again just so I can be available to work at a much shorter notice. Many thanks

  7. Hello friends, I am applying for my work visa on Tuesday at the embassy in washington DC, and I have a few questions. With the school year fast approaching, my employer has recommended I apply for my work visa as 'coordinator'. I have no idea what this means, or how it might expedite the process, but due to time constraints, they are adamant I apply as 'coordinator'. Any one familiar with this distinction? I will have all the necessary documents from my employer before I go, but I'm wondering about not yet having my TEFL certificate; I am about a week or two from completing it. The school has offered me a jobk, knowing that I will soon complete my certificate, but I hope this is not something that the embassy wants to see before I can get my visa. I will bring my diploma, passport and the documents from my future employer (Doğa schools) and hope for the best. Thanks to any one who can give me any advice. Best wishes Thomas
  8. I've been looking at teaching in Turkey through the company 'teach to travel'. Their website says: 'You will have your Residency Permit applied for before you arrive in Turkey, however, you will need to pick it up from the bureau in Turkey within 90 days of your arrival. You will need to get a tourist visa at the Turkish airport when you arrive. You will pick up your residency permit after this. You will also be picking up your work permit in Turkey.' What I don't understand is why can't they put in the application for the Work Permit before I arrive in the country (the job starts months down the line after all) Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks! 9. Hello everyone! I am a CELTA-certified, English BA-holding qualified teacher currently living and teaching in Vietnam. I am looking to move to Izmir in two months, but have had trouble finding many job prospects online. I've read the forum threads and people seem pretty confident about being able to find work in Turkey/Izmir. What I would like to know is: If I move to Izmir without a concrete job, how possible would it be to secure one (one which would pay for and support a work visa, at that) once I arrive? I have no problem going to Izmir without a job, but would need to know that it's definitely possible to secure one once I arrived. Thanks so much for reading this & I hope to hear from you all soon! You have a great community on this site-- v. cool.
