Hello, I have been in Istanbul for about 1.5 years. During these days I could never buy good meat! I don't say that meats have bad taste but let's explain more. In AVMs there are two options. First the butcher second is the one you can take from the refrigerator. The second is not what I want since you don't know what it is. But, the advantage of this kind is that they do not have black color. The butcher in AVMs and personal butchers most of the times some part of the meat is black! I don't know. I paid money I expected to have good meat. Maybe it is not a problem and I am sensitive. But

Hi, I'm an US Army retiree with a valid retiree ID card. I'll be arriving at Izmir tomorrow and want to make a quick stop at the shoppette or the exchange for some Newports ( I don't exactly know where I need to go to shop). Do I need a special permit? If so, where can I obtain it? Thanks in advance for your replies.

I love clothes, shoes and bling and when I think of living in Turkey full time the biggest problem for me is buying decent clothes ! Now I leave clothes in Turkey so I don't have to bring case loads of stuff each time I come , well that's the idea I find a lot of Turkish clothing to be over priced and poor quality, The sizes are also much smaller than the UK. I suppose I could shop on Ebay or online. How or where do you ladies buy your clothes?

I'm trying out Migros's online grocery ordering system for the first time. Looks great! In my neighborhood, I often can't get things I want, like big bottles of soda (I ordered a few cases of that) and spinach (which my local market has only occasionally). Since I don't have a car, I have to take a big backpack with me and lug everything back home. Now they'll just bring it all to me. I figure before long I'll be complaining about how I have to lug the groceries from the front door to the kitchen. The system wouldn't take my foreigner identification number (apparently it actually looks yo

Hello! My husband is going to be visiting his family in Turkey, but I can't go. So he promises to bring me some gifts. I've been to Turkey several times, so I have most of the souvenir type stuff. Besides a few food items, I don't know what to tell him to bring. Any suggestions from those of you who are living there now? What music/artists are popular now? I love Turkish pop, but don't know who's big now. Any other gift ideas?

This will be my first trip to Turkey, and my company was nice enough to put me up at the Istanbul Marriott Hotel Asia (on the Asian side of Istanbul). That said, I still do want to see the Blue Mosque and the rest of Istanbul -- especially the Grand Bazaar. I would really appreciate it if someone can help me find my way from the Istanbul Marriott Hotel Asia to the European side of Istanbul. Train, bus, ferry -- I'm open to anything as long as it's fast (and hopefully reasonably priced)! Any input would be totally appreciated. Thanks!

How far away is Fener, Çağlayan, Şirinyalı and Yeşilbahçe from city center, both in terms of in terms of traffic (do the main roads between this area and city center have heavy traffic during rush hour?) Are there buses from/to this area from/to the city center and if so, how long does it take to get to city center? Do you know the neighborhood name that has the 5M Migros in Konyaaltı?

I have been to Turkey in June, I walked thru the spice and grand bazaar, in the old covered market, there are souvenir shops. I need the name and contact of the merchant who has the store opposite to the lampshade store. The merchant I am referring to sells ceramic stuff, ladies jewellery, pashmina shawls, ceramic plates etc. I have lost his contact.

Hello Last time I was in Bodrum, I had to experience the fact that a lot of crap is on sale near the harbour. I am looking for typical Turkish/Middle Eastern things such as nazar's (evil eyes) and tespih's (bead chains of sorts). Furthermore, I would like to buy a cezve (Turkish coffee pot), tea glasses and stuff like that. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding a place to go, if I am looking for this? I am unfortunately probably not spending more than a day in Bodrum (and, effectively, Turkey) before moving on to Greece, so I am not going to have very much time to look. Besi
