  1. My mother passed away and she had a property in Istanbul that she owned. Title of deed or address are no where to be found. all I know is that the property is in Istanbul. there is no documentation at all about anything with relation to the property. all we have is her death certificate and her passport and visa stamp on passport. How can I find out about the property or obtain a new title deed document for inheritance purposes ? we are 2 sons and 1 daughter.
  2. I am trying to find out some information regarding the formal inheritance process in Turkey. I am a British citizen, who's father died in 2018. He jointly owned a property in Turkey (but lived in the UK) with equal shares with my step-mother - both of their names are still on the Tapu as she has not dealt with this with the government. He had no will when he died. My siblings and I are not interested in inheriting the property at all, but i wondered what the rules are. Do we by law have to inherit our share of the property or can we waiver our rights to this? Is inheritance automatic
  3. A Dutch lady owns a holiday apartment together with her British husband. Both names are on the Tapu. They are both residing in the Netherlands. While on vacation in Turkey last fall, he dies. He has 3 children from another marriage that are British citizens that reside in the UK. 1) He did not leave a will. How much of this property will the children inherit? 75% of the 50% he owned? 2) They all want to sell the apartment. If possible, they don't want to have to travel to Turkey. They are all in agreement, they have a Turkish buyer who lives in Turkey and they want to do it as inexpen
  4. Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. Sadly my ex husband died unexpectedly leaving behind our 13 year old son, my ex is Originally from Turkey and was living in Canada with Canadian Citizenship, our son born in Canada. My son is the only living relative left and his dad left couple of homes in Turkey and probably money. The issue is I don’t know from where to start and what paper work we need so my son can access and manage what’s left for him. I heard we need a certificate of inheritance from Turkey first. Any advice would be much appreciated?! Thanks
  5. Could someone help please. My mother and her partner of 40 years moved to Turkey in 2005 and have lived their ever since. My mother's partner died in August and their joint bank account has been frozen. Mother has been told from the bank that she needs to get a certificate of inheritance in order to release the funds. The problem is nobody seems to know what documents she needs to take to court to get this certificate because they never married. There are no family left on the deceased side as he had no children can anybody tell me what she needs to prove she is entitled to their own mone

    Inheritance And Wills

I read on the forum a post (which I cannot find now) regarding, if a wife owns a property and the Tapu is in her name only, that on her death the husband gets 100% of the property. The exact form of the rule should be"If the wife of a British/Turkish man fully owns a property in Turkey and the wife's name only is on the Tapu then on her death the husband gets 100% of the property immovable assets only if they have or she has no children alive, and if her father and mother are not alive and she has no siblings alive "
  8. I have inherited a 3 story building in Istanbul from my mother. I went to Civil Court in Istanbul and received a judgement stating I am the legal inheritor of the property. However, the Tapu office is not changing the property to my name because there has been a government lien since 1981. The original deed shows my mother is Syrian citizen. Because of the dispute between Turkey and Syria, the Tapu office will not change it to my name even though I have a court order. Also, the government has been renting the property and keeping the rent. I have dual citizenship, Iraq and United States. My mo
  9. Can anyone help here. If a British man dies and owns a Turkish Property jointly with a British wife, do Turkish Authorities automatically search UK records for any of his children before amending a Tapu into single name??
  10. My Father in Law died over 6 years ago and he owned a house jointly with his wife, they had turkish wills in the event of death that the house be passed to the surviving spouse or if in the event of both deaths to be passed to their two sons in equal shares. This I thought would be a simple transaction that the property would be then put into the sole name of my mother in law (his spouse). This still hasn't happened after all this time despite numerours trips to the lawyers office, and lots of money in various charges from the lawyer. My first question is does it normally take this long?
  11. Hi all,My Mum recently suddenly died in hospital in Turkey . She was repatriated and buried in the UK. She and my stepdad have a property in Didim. They also have a property in Bulgaria. Firstly, my step dad has not been issued a death certificate of any kind. What does he need to do and where does he need to go to get one? Secondly, myself and my brothers want to give my stepdad full control of the properties. (bulgaria has the same inheritance law as turkey i am told). How do we go about doing this? Do we need to issue a power of attorney to my step dad? My step dad is in turkey and myself a
