  1. Good day My wife and I would like to adopt a small dog. Any tips and suggestions? Also, can you suggest some dog adoption organizations in Izmir please?
  2. Hello all, I am traveling with my dog to India and have 2 hours transit at Istanbul airport. My dog is traveling in the flight cabin with me so when we arrive at Istanbul airport can she walk with me? I would like her to stretch her legs and walk a little before boarding the next flight. Please advise! Thanks, Siddhi
  3. Hi , I will be moving to Ankara in June along with my english cocker spaniel from Dublin . I had planned to go the only Direct route to istanbul via Turkish AIrlines however i was informed they can carry a pet on outbound flight but not on inbound flights back to Ireland. I wonder has anyone returned to Ireland with a Pet and By which route? I am concerned about going with him now . Regards Geraldine
  4. We live in a rural area of Urla and there are a number of dogs that roam free - they are rather large and although we have never heard of anyone being attacked, they are nevertheles intimidating. My wife and son are anxious about going out of the complex especially when taking our (cocker spaniel) for a walk - he would be considered a snack by some of them!!! Other than carrying a large stick when out for a walk - we did some research and came across an 'ultrasonic deterrent' that claimed to drive agressive dogs away. I searched the internet for this and found a Dazer II on Amazon, as there is no Amazon (other than Gittigidiyor) in Turkey I got one when I was in Germany. The Dazer works - I tried it on a dog which was barking and came a bit near - the dog stopped, turned around and ran away. The unit is about the size of a cigarette packet and weighs about 100 grams - it is effective at about 20 feet and is powered by a 9v battery. A neat piece of equipment if you are concerned about stray dogs. P. S. It does not harm the dogs - it just produces a high pitched sound that dogs do not like.
  5. Just moved to a new house (site in Denzili) - heard from neighbours that once a year the bekciler put out poison for the street dogs (all of them lovely mutts) - as there would be no way to prove this, anyone have any suggestions about how to prevent this? muddy
  6. So now that I have my lovely little girl with me in Turkey and are all happy about this a few new problems have arisen. When we were planning to move out here I was worried about the heat and about wild dogs, she is fluffy and only little. We sorted this by getting clippers (her first home made haircut is a whole different story) and bribing the neighbours pit bull mix into being her bodyguard The one thing I didn`t think about was nature, it started as soon as the grass started to turn golden, she kept on stopping every few meters to pull quite nasty seeds out of her paws. The neighbours short haired dog doesn't seem to have any problems with it, so we thought the best way to go would be to shave the fur in-between her toes. Her paws are very fury and webbed toes, she is a Tibetan Terrier cross. This has made it worse Now she has sores in-between her toes, it looks quite angry and crusty. The only way I can explain this is by thinking its the seeds actually breaking the skin, its very thin and delicate in that area. I checked the internet as well for soreness on paws etc. and one thing they come up with is grain allergies??? as I cook for her anyway how can I not use grain?? or are there grains she can eat?? the only different grain I used was something looking like Barley but turning out to need a lot longer cooking, translation for the name on the packet just said "pulses" (bakliyat) but I have seen the same wort on totally different grains so ??? Another problem is she has got little sore bumps all over her but mostly on the legs and undercarriage. The seem to itch her, so once again, seeds or maybe mosquito bites. (before anyone asks, yes of course she is treated for fleas and ticks) Also I`m quite worried now, before we left England my Vet who is Spanish herself, said to register my dog with a local vet as there may be different vaccinations needed on top of what she already has for England. She didn't go into detail but she seem to think that in the Mediterranean areas are different diseases we don't vaccinate for in England. She mentioned its because of the mosquitoes. I did register her over here with a reputable vet who put all her details into his pc, checked her pet passport, gave us some more Frontline but then said that she is fully vaccinated and he doesn't know about any other vaccinations. So I believed him, but now I have just stumbled over an illness called "Canine leishmaniasis" I know that a lot of you are doggy lovers as well so maybe you can advise please? I really could`t bear it if her life would be miserable because of my move
  7. Hi everyone, I hope you can help me, I have a bit of a problem. I am from the UK but currently living in Egypt and moving to Bulgaria next week. My girlfriend is travelling from Cairo to Ataturk with Egyptair and then from Ataturk to Sofia with Turkish airlines with our pet dog. Contacted Turkish airlines before booking the flight to confirm plane could accept the dog in the cargo and they confirmed this and told me to phone back once ticket was booked. Anyway, after numerous phone calls over the last 6 weeks they have finally informed me they cannot confirm my dog will be accepted on the flight. So basically I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the details of a dog kennels/pet hotel somewhere near Ataturk airport. Preferably one that has an English speaking staff member as have phoned 4 places now and none of them speak English. I am hoping that we will be succesful in getting the dog on the flight but need a plan in case we cant.... The flight is on Sunday. Thanks in advanceScott
