  1. Hey all, A week ago I successfully booked a flight from İstanbul to Washington DC Dulles (July 15-Aug 20), but today was notified of it's cancelation. I'm on hold with Turkish Airlines now and should have more info soon, but I'm curious if anyone on here has info on flying from Turkey - US. Thanks everyone, Thomas
  2. I booked a flight departing Dulles International Airport for Istanbul, then Antalya, departing 10 June. The next day I got an e-mail from Turkish Airlines saying my flight was canceled. Turkish Airlines re-booked my flight over the phone, for the earliest flight from Dulles International Airport to Istanbul, then to Antalya, departing on June 22nd. While the initial e-mails I received for the first booking gave me a link to get an HES Code (a code for Covid-19 tracing of travelers), the lady I spoke to while rescheduling said I wasn't required to get one. If you have to call Turkish Airlines, expect a long wait on hold. Because of the distancing required in call centers, they have fewer operators to handle calls from passengers. For those who will be booking a flight from the USA to Turkey, this is how things went for me. 5 June: Making My Flight Reservation for 10 June I went to the THY website to book a flight from Dulles Airport, Washington, D.C. to Antalya. According to the booking website, there was a flight available for booking on 10 June, the first day international flights were resuming. No Seat Selection Option While booking my flight, the option to choose my seat was there, but there was no capability to actually select a seat by clicking on an open seat. All seats were grayed out. I Successfully Made a Reservation, but Didn't Receive an e-Ticket or Ticket Number I clicked to continue and bypass the seat selection option and I was able to make a flight reservation. I received a reservation code, but no e-ticket or ticket number. All I had was the reservation code. 6 June: Received an E-mail with a Link to create an HES Code, along with an E-mail Saying My Flight was Canceled For those unfamiliar, Turkey is requiring passengers on domestic flights to get an HES code, which is used with your mobile phone and Bluetooth to record your proximity with other people who also have the code installed on their mobile phone. If someone using the code system tests positive for the Covid-19 virus, everyone who has had contact with that person is alerted to let them know that they should also be tested. It can be downloaded onto your smart phone and activated during the period you'll be traveling. I received an e-mail with a link to a page on the THY website where I could get an HES code by entering my ticket number (which I had not received by e-mail) or my reservation code (which I did have), and also my surname. However, I also received an e-mail saying my flight had been canceled and telling me to call the THY call center. I didn't enter my information to get my HES code, since my flight had been canceled, and I didn't know what my dates of travel would be. I called the Turkish Airlines call center. As is normal these days, there was a long wait on hold. I called at 8:45 PM and was on hold until 10:17 PM. Flight Rescheduled for 22 June The lady I spoke to said the flight from Washington D.C. to Istanbul was canceled, but that she could reschedule the flight. I asked for the earliest possible flight. The earliest flight she could book departs on 22 June. She booked it for me, and sent me an e-ticket by e-mail as we spoke. No HES Code Required Since I got an e-mail previously giving me a link to get an HES code, I asked her if I needed to get one. She said no, that the HES code was not required. According to Turkish Airlines, an HES code is required for domestic travel, so it may be that I'll have to get an HES code after I arrive in Istanbul. I'll post again about this once I know for sure. Flights Are Resuming This Month (June) I had been hearing that flights had again been postponed yet again until September, but since I was talking with a Turkish Airlines employee and she was booking a flight for me over the phone for 22 June, this confirms that flights to Turkey are indeed resuming this month.
  3. With tourism starting back up in June, I'm trying (with little success) to find answers to these questions. Was wondering if you could help. We are from the US, and I'm having a hard time finding out if we will even be allowed to fly there end of June/July... does anyone know if people from the US are allowed to come as tourists? Does anyone know if there are travel restrictions for tourists on bus travel between cities/provinces? Like would we need permission to travel from one province to another? If we need to book a domestic flight (ie Istanbul-Antalya) will we need to have an HES # to purchase tickets? Not sure how we would get them if we are not residents? Thanks in advance for your replies!
  4. As you may know, domestic flights in Turkey will begin again on June 4th. International flights will begin again on June 10th. Before you can buy a ticket for a domestic flight, you must first obtain a "Hayat Eve Sığar" (HES) code. You can get one through Turkey's e-government portal at https://turkiye.gov/ or, if you're not a member, you can download the application from your mobile phone app store. For more information, see this article on the Turkish Airlines site: https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-us/announcements/coronavirus-outbreak/hes-code/ I didn't find the article to be very clear on what this is. But my take is that it's a way for the airline to know if, during contact tracing investigations, you've been identified as having been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. So if you apply for the number, I assume a check is done in a database to see if you've been exposed to the virus, and if you have, you won't be allowed on any domestic flights. I'm seeing that, for now, this doesn't involve international flights which connect with domestic flights, but that will probably change. Be sure to read the article in case it's updated later. Special thanks to @Fizyo.deniz for passing this information on to me.
  5. Me and my wife fully have our ikamets (residence permits) and are now settled in Ankara, thank you to both Martin for the amazing docs you have set up and also thank you to Ken for running this forum with the helpful guides as well! (I'll discuss me and my wife's ikamet fun on another post) So, I have two friends that are out of Turkey (They both have ikamets and own an apartment here). They plan to fly back to Turkey as soon as possible, which I believe its June 4th but I hear it got pushed a week further? The general question is, will they be allowed on a flight to Istanbul from their country of origin with their ikamets? Or will they be denied boarding?
  6. Please I need your knowledge and advice about Corona and its covering by health Insurance covering. I have only Health insurance which I used for RP, I could not have one from SGK because I have not been one year in Turkey yet. my husband have no health Insurance because he is over 65 year. Both have Swedish health insurance , which unfortunately is not valid here in Turkey. I do not know how it will go if one of us will be infected with Corona virus and need to be hospitalized? Is the Turkish system will allowed us to be treated in the public health system as it is a pandemic disease? We very worried , as we could not traveled back to Sweden.
  7. The Turkish Ministry of Health have confirmed that passengers without Turkish residency permits will not be permitted to enter Turkey within 14 days of a visit to China, South Korea, Iran, Iraq or Italy. If a passenger has a residency permit, they may be allowed to enter Turkey but they will be tested on arrival for COVID-19. A positive test will lead to the passenger going straight to the quarantine facility. A negative test will lead to mobility restrictions – either self-isolation or full quarantine for 14 days. You should carry additional supplies of necessary medication in carry-on luggage.
  8. Urgent request for assistance... I'm a foreigner, currently stranded in Istabul, since the start of the COVID emergency. I'm a teacher outside Tukey but unable to travel anywhere now and also unable to sustain myself, so I am in urgent need of some help. Please, if you can help, write to me at [email protected] ................................. APOLOGIES, I used Google translate for the below text ................
  9. I am In Somalia. I also have a Turkish residence permit. My residence permit expired on 05-05-2020 and there's No International flights to Turkey. How can I renew? How Can I report the problem?
  10. Hi, I'm in a bit of a quandary. I'm registered from Istanbul but have been staying near Milas and have now decided to stay here permanently so I have to change address. The 157 helpline said I have to go to göç idaresı (immigration office) in Muğla but being over 65 I can't leave the house because of the Covid-19 restrictions. I rang the Muğla office but couldn't find an English speaker and my Tarzan Turkish doesn't go too far. As far as I could gather I shouldn't do anything about it but surely this will breach the 20 day rule particularly as I've informed the 157 helpline of my situation. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
  11. My heart goes out to all those tourists stranded in Turkey at the moment. They must be feeling very vulnerable. Being stuck in a foreign country, not understanding the language and trying to find suitable accommodation without being ripped off is bound to be difficult. This is where this forum can help people. There are many helpful people on this forum who are living in Turkey in various locations around the country. I am sure that if you are reading this and are stranded or worried sick about what to do then why not post a request here for advice or confirmation on something that you are not sure about. This forum has several Turkish speakers who can put your mind at rest about notifications that you might have received or just general information about procedures in hospitals etc. There is no need to feel alone or in a panic. The expat community in Turkey is quite large and there are plenty of people on hand to offer you advice. Stay stafe!
