Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü (Directorate General of Migration Management, or DGGM) had made important changes to the residence permit process. My articles on the residence permit process apply to non-pandemic conditions. So use the information below to update yourself on the current pandemic situation and what additional things you need to do when you apply for a residence permit. There Are No Appointments—Application Packages are Mailed In In all of the residence permit articles where they refer to attending an appointment, substitute the in

To fight the COVID-19 virus pandemic, Turkey has implemented a contact tracing system which will let you know if you've recently been in contact with a person who later tests positive for the COVID-19 virus. It's the HES Kodu, pronounced "hess-ko-doo." What is the HES

With tourism starting back up in June, I'm trying (with little success) to find answers to these questions. Was wondering if you could help. We are from the US, and I'm having a hard time finding out if we will even be allowed to fly there end of June/July... does anyone know if people from the US are allowed to come as tourists? Does anyone know if there are travel restrictions for tourists on bus travel between cities/provinces? Like would we need permission to travel from one province to another? If we need to book a domestic flight (ie Istanbul-Antalya) will we need to have

Hey all, A week ago I successfully booked a flight from İstanbul to Washington DC Dulles (July 15-Aug 20), but today was notified of it's cancelation. I'm on hold with Turkish Airlines now and should have more info soon, but I'm curious if anyone on here has info on flying from Turkey - US. Thanks everyone, Thomas

I booked a flight departing Dulles International Airport for Istanbul, then Antalya, departing 10 June. The next day I got an e-mail from Turkish Airlines saying my flight was canceled. Turkish Airlines re-booked my flight over the phone, for the earliest flight from Dulles International Airport to Istanbul, then to Antalya, departing on June 22nd. While the initial e-mails I received for the first booking gave me a link to get an HES Code (a code for Covid-19 tracing of travelers), the lady I spoke to while rescheduling said I wasn't required to get one. If you have to call Turkish Airli

As you may know, domestic flights in Turkey will begin again on June 4th. International flights will begin again on June 10th. Before you can buy a ticket for a domestic flight, you must first obtain a "Hayat Eve Sığar" (HES) code. You can get one through Turkey's e-government portal at https://turkiye.gov/ or, if you're not a member, you can download the application from your mobile phone app store. For more information, see this article on the Turkish Airlines site: https://www.turkishairlines.com/en-us/announcements/coronavirus-outbreak/hes-code/ I didn't find the articl

The Turkish Ministry of Health have confirmed that passengers without Turkish residency permits will not be permitted to enter Turkey within 14 days of a visit to China, South Korea, Iran, Iraq or Italy. If a passenger has a residency permit, they may be allowed to enter Turkey but they will be tested on arrival for COVID-19. A positive test will lead to the passenger going straight to the quarantine facility. A negative test will lead to mobility restrictions – either self-isolation or full quarantine for 14 days. You should carry additional supplies of necessary medication in carry-on luggag

Hi, I'm in a bit of a quandary. I'm registered from Istanbul but have been staying near Milas and have now decided to stay here permanently so I have to change address. The 157 helpline said I have to go to göç idaresı (immigration office) in Muğla but being over 65 I can't leave the house because of the Covid-19 restrictions. I rang the Muğla office but couldn't find an English speaker and my Tarzan Turkish doesn't go too far. As far as I could gather I shouldn't do anything about it but surely this will breach the 20 day rule particularly as I've informed the 157 helpline of my situation. An

My heart goes out to all those tourists stranded in Turkey at the moment. They must be feeling very vulnerable. Being stuck in a foreign country, not understanding the language and trying to find suitable accommodation without being ripped off is bound to be difficult. This is where this forum can help people.
