  1. If you're in or around Adana, might be at Incirlik Air Base which is about 10 or so kilometers east of there. Honestly I found Adana to be a bit bleak compared to other Turkish cities, but there are things to do. Adana is a working, industrial city that doesn't particularly cater to tourists. There's a large lake (Seyhan Gölü) with a road going along the shore where there are a some very pleasant restaurants. Nice place to relax. There are also a few places around the lake where you can drive up and hang out on the "beach," or go for a swim. There's also the M1 mall where you'll find modern conveniences, shopping, and restaurants. There are some good restaurants and night clubs in city center as well. The city has a few top-notch hotels including the Hilton. The Mediterranean Sea is a mere 25 minutes away, Karataş being the closest beach town. It's a rather sleepy fishing village on the shore. Better beaches are to be found west of Adana, by taking the highway to Mersin and driving along the coastal road. You're not far from Cappadocia, which is absolutely worth the visit! Allow three days for that, there are many wonders to see there! Mersin reminded me of a more touristic city. It is definitely worth a visit for its seafood restaurants and the lovely promenade along the shore. Tarsus, where the apostle Paul was born, is very close to Adana, and any tourist coming to Adana probably comes for that! Or perhaps the absolutely huge mosque there built by one of the richest families in Turkey, the Sabancı family. The patriarch of the family is from Adana, and he decided to build a mosque there. It rivals the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and you shouldn't miss it. If you're going to Adana, I've lived there and would be happy to answer your questions.
  2. The Directorate General of Migration Management, or DGMM is, in Turkish, called the Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlügü. Most Turks just call it the "Göç İdaresi." Apply Online First You must apply for your residence (residency) permit online, at https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/. At the end of your application, the online system will give you an appointment date (or you will receive one by E-mail or SMS message) for you to bring a signed printout of your application, the required documents, and your passport to the Adana branch office of the DGMM. During your appointment, an immigration specialist will go over your application package. If it is approved, he or she will give you a temporary residence permit which will keep you legally in Turkey until your residence permit card is printed and sent to your address by registered mail. How to Get There Besides viewing the map above, you can also click on the "Plan my route" button. This will take you to Google Maps, where you can enter your starting location and submit it for directions and the route you need to take. If you take a taxi, tell the taxi driver "Göç Idaresi" (guhch ee-dah-reh-see). You can also show the taxi driver your completed online application, which will have the address on it. Assistance and Support Residence Permit Application Service If you would like professional assistance with your residence permit application, we can provide it. Just go to our residence permit assistance form and make an inquiry. Residence Permit Helpline Turkey has a national helpline for foreigners called YİMER (Yabancılar İletişim Merkezi), or in English, the Foreigner's Communication Center. You can call this helpline with any questions you have about the residence permit process or about what documents you need, or if a long time has passed (at least 40 days), you can check on your application status. Be sure to have your passport, your application number, and/or your current residence permit with you when you call. You can reach YİMER from any landline or mobile phone in Turkey, for by calling 157. The call is free. If you are calling from another country, call 90 312 157 1122. How-to Articles Here is a collection of articles about the different types of residence permits you can get in Turkey, with instructions to help you get one. Turkey Residence Permits Residence Permit Community Forum Most Turkey Central members have already gone through the whole residence permit process, and are happy to share their experiences with you or give you advice. Chances are, someone has already asked the question you have, so be sure to search the forums first to see if your questions have already been answered. If they haven't, you can open a new topic. 3. North (New) Adana has wider streets, and a more posh feel to it than Eski Adana (Old Adana). North Adana is pretty much anything north of the E-5 highway which bisects the city.
  4. Here is the Adana Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü (Directorate General of Migration Management, or DGMM). On that page you will find contact information, a map, and a link to their website.

    Moving To Adana

Hi, I'm a new to this site and was wondering how I should go about finding employment in Adana. I was actually born in Adana but moved to the U.S. in 1966. I have decided to move back to my hometown but would like to work. I speak Turkish but it's not quite strong. I"m wondering if anyone can provide me with help regarding this. I have searched the internet but only came across teaching jobs and I don't have any training or certification. I did think about private tutoring. Any ideas would be appreciated!
  7. I am a Turkish student studying at Çukurova University, the Department of English Language Teaching. If anyone needs help, I'm here. I would also love to here your thoughts about our city Adana. Do you like it?
  8. I recently stayed with a friend in Adana, in a downtown area called Cemalpaşa. It's here: It was a very nice, upscale shopping district, which reminded me of the Alsancak district in Izmir. My friend had a two-bedroom apartment there, and said he was paying 750 TL a month for it. Just a regular apartment with nothing fancy. Here are some photos of the district: While there, we also went to the M-1 Shopping Mall which is here: They had expanded the M-1 Mall a lot, it was huge! Here are some photos: Enjoy the photos. For some of my older ones, including the local sights like the archaeological museum and the Sabancı Mosque, see the Adana Photo Galleries.

    New to Adana

I had a 6 Month extendable contract in Adana. I should be in Adana by end of September. I never been to Adana before. Can you help about activities can be done after work or in weekends? I know Turkish as well so it will not be that hard to communicate.
  11. Around 2 months ago I moved to Adana to be with my Turkish boyfriend who lives here. I'm British and I kinda know the Turkish language. I'm still learning but at the moment I can write in Turkish, but I can't actually speak Turkish. My boyfriend works full time in a gym, so I'm alone most of the time and I don't know anybody else here. I haven't met any other British people here or any Americans, Australians or native English speakers. I have also noticed that Turkish girls seem to not like me. There have been a few occasions since being here that I have had "snide" remarks from some Turkish girls when they have seen that I'm British not Turkish and also a lot of nasty looks when I'm walking in the street with my boyfriend I'm not sure why it is but I haven't had this kind of thing with Turkish men and to be honest older Turkish women haven't been like this towards me at all it seems to be the Turkish girls who are around my age (20) so that's made it really hard to make any friends and feel settled because I have no female friends to talk too here. Any suggestions on how I could make some friends in Adana would be very much appreciated.
  12. I am from Georgia. Adana Çukurova University. accepted my internship. I am worrying that it is near the Syrian boarder. Is it safe to live in Adana? As I was told there is conflict and it is not recommended to go to Adana. What will you suggest me?

    living in Adana

Hello everyone. I am a new member here. I am living in Adana for 2 years. I am married to a Turkish man, have a 10-month-old son. Are there women like me in Adana? Let's communicate, share our worries and happy moments.
  15. My name is Ed. I'm a naturalized US citizen who for the last 4 years has been living in Alanya. Visited Adana last year, which was more of forced trip if you will. We had to notarize same papers at the US Embassy. Long story short, we loved the place. The food, the people. Overall, it was a very nice experience. So we have decided to make the move to Adana and are excited about the idea. I was wondering if I could get some advice from members of this forum like Greenstein, Conan, Ken, Gupsise and others in terms of what areas to consider for rent. Also, what's the going rent rate for a two bedroom plus? More importantly though, I have a 3-year residence permit which expires in a couple of months. At which place do foreigners go for renewals?
  16. I am currently living in Adana. Are there any other British expats in Adana?
  17. Please I have been in a long-distance relationship with this man for over 4 yrs now, only Skypeing and Facebook not much more then that, promises of marriage and love, he won't allow me to come to see him, he always has an excuse of work and he can't afford to pay for me, I never ask him to pay for me but it is his so called pride that makes him believe he has to be the one to support me while i am there. I need to know how I can find him, I really need to know if he is married and that is why he is not allowing me to come see him nor meet his family. Very hurt and feeling alone here. I am losing my mind.
  18. I just got in last night. I will be here for around 6 months. I look forward to traveling some and good food and shopping. I have read some forum posts and found some info. If anyone has any recommendations of places to go or things to do please let me know.

    Izmir vs Adana

Hi All, My husband (ret US Army) and I are planning to move to Turkey and wanted to know whether Izmir or Adana was a better choice in terms of: [*]access to the bases for health care, commissaries, etc [*]expat community [*]ability to walk around or go running/hiking [*]safety as we may be traveling quite a bit for my job [*]restaurants, shops, things to do [*]availability and affordability of 1 BR furnished apartments (seems like this isn't too common but unfortunately, we have no furniture because we've both been working overseas for a while) [*]We're spending 3 weeks in October to explore both places and hopefully, find a place to live. Can anyone refer us to a real estate agent we can trust? I went to the websites suggested on the forum but was a bit overwhelmed with apartments, flats, villas, detached houses, residences, waterside houses, winter houses, etc so I thought we should get an agent before we wound up in a tent somewhere Thanks!
  24. I arrived here two weeks ago and I'm about to stay in Adana for two years, perhaps even longer. For the past two weeks I've been spending most of my time indoors because I don't speak Turkish. Optimum outlet is by far the most frequently-visited place for me. I would be more than happy to meet some new friends. Oh, BTW, I'm a 24-year-old Chinese (male if you have to know.) I don't speak Turkish but speak relatively good English. I don't think there are many Asian people here in Adana? I heard there is an American air base here so perhaps there are many American soldiers? Cool!
