  1. Wish I had found this site earlier. Found it while looking for Disko Hit. I was stationed in Izmir 1972-1974 in the Army, in the JSSG. I worked in the telephone central offices at Landsoutheast HQ and Disko Hit. Cant remember if I worked at Sirinyer in that time. Got to be kind of a blur. Other than a fishing trip to Lake Van and a visit to Sardis, I didn''t get far from Izmir. Did spend a lot of time at the NATO Rod and Gun Club and hunting in the area. Saw and did a lot of things there. Two years of my life I value very highly. I loved the people and the country. Worked with some inter
  2. Hey there my name is Hakan from Melbourne, Australia. I was born in Turkey and raised in Australia. I don't have a citizenship or passport from Turkey but since I was born there I am eligible for one. Moving to Turkey from Australia has been on my mind a lot lately. 3. My friend, who is a dual citizen, postponed his military till 38 years old. He wants to come to Turkey to live for 1 or 2 years during this time, he is 29 now. Does anyone know what is the penalty for living in Turkey for 1-2 years while on postponement? I read that you can only stay in Turkey for 184 days per year or you risk having your postponement cancelled. Will he have to pay a fine when he tries to leave? sent to military? etc? Thanks in advance for anyones help on this matter.

  7. Hello everyone. My husband is in the Air Force and just received orders to go to Izmir. I see that there have been a few other posts like this but they it looked like they were a few years old. I wanted to see what all you guys could tell me about having an assignment in Izmir; things to bring, housing, car info, etc. My husband is thinking about tradeing in one of our vehicles, before he goes, for a Jetta TDI that has a diesel engine. One of our questions is do they have diesel readily available at the gas stations over there? Another big question is how hard is it to find housing there
  8. Hi, I'm an US Army retiree with a valid retiree ID card. I'll be arriving at Izmir tomorrow and want to make a quick stop at the shoppette or the exchange for some Newports ( I don't exactly know where I need to go to shop). Do I need a special permit? If so, where can I obtain it? Thanks in advance for your replies.
  9. I've met this guy through online dating app. He was a soldier. I'm a newbie professor living in the Philippines.. He was 23 and I'm 19. Now...he say he can't go to my country because turkey soldiers were banned to travel abroad since last year. Should i trust him on that? Coz i searched about turkey soldiers being banned to travel abroad....and i cant find similar to that...so...i made a fake account and add his soldier friends and other relatives. Then i asked them if its true then i got a positive reply...soldiers are banned to travel in other countries ...but i want more clarifications and

He has already told me that for the first few weeks/month there will be little or no contact at all, but after this time he will be able to contact me for short periods of time. He also said that after May he will be able to take two weeks leave so that I can travel to Turkey and spend time with him during his leave. 16. Hi my fiancée and I have been together for 4 years. He's turkish and I'm British and he's coming 21 years of age. He has delayed the army for a few years due to his mums health and is due to go in, in 2017. We're quite happy to do this however, several of his family members have said if I got a lawyer on the English side he will have a chance to come into the country before he does his army service and we would be able to buy out of it after 3 years... Does anyone know the possibility or risks of this? Before we pay out for help and end up with nothing. This would be so much bet

The thing is, he isnt supposed to go to the military yet since he is enrolled in University. Since he is enrolled in University, the day they call him is probably like 5 years away maybe 6. 19. Fantastic site and wisdom in the postings. It is great to have found and this problem i feel crosses many more ages than just those under 29. I have a question about military service, etc. in the Turkish army. If someone has been in the military for years, I believe as a career, is older, as in 55 years old; is it feasible or possible or any type of truth to the fact, that if they have violated some military rule (i don't know what else to call it other than a rule) - is it possible that this person could be thrown into jail and maybe in jail for life. And I believe they were only guilty of
  20. The battle of Gallipoli was one of the bloodiest battles of WWI, fought on Turkish soil, with the Turks defending their homeland. It was not just a turning point of the war, but a turning point of the world. It lasted from 25 April 1915 to 9 January 1916. This battle formed the basis for the Turkish war of independence, then later, the establishment of the Republic of Turkey under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who first rose to prominence as a general during this battle. It also marked the birth of the national consciousness of Australia and New Zealand, since the ANZACs (Australia New Zealand Army
  21. Here is the latest information regarding access to Incirlik Air Base for medical care for US military retirees. The 39th Medical Group offers space-available medical care and pharmacy services to US military retirees and their dependents as always, but only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will need to arrange an escort from the main gate to the hospital. To do so, call the patient liaison at 0322 316 3373 to arrange a gate pass. The patient liaisons will then submit the paperwork for the gate pass. Because of the recent changes to the base access policy, you must be escorted from the ma
  22. I've just been alerted that the status of forces agreement between the Turkish government and the US military in Turkey has changed. US military retirees now have BX and Commissary privileges. I have verified this with a contact at Incirlik Air Base.
  23. Hi everyone out there! I am Norwegian and my boyfriend, Mahmut, is Turkish. We have been together for a while now, and he is now in the army to do his time. He has been there now for 4 months and have left 8 months. I've come here because I was hoping if there is anyone that has been in a similar situation that could maybe help me with some advice and support on how to still keep my head up and basically hang on, because right now I am at a breaking point. The thing is that in April he was supposed to get a vacation time where we finally were gonna see each other again, and it's also
  24. Hi, I'm new on this site and have 2 questions that have been bothering me for a longtime. I have been trying to get info on the paid (dovizli) military service. I was born in Istanbul and been living in NY for 19 years now, I am 32 years old, Turkish and US citizen, and also have delayed my army service until age of 38. I called the NY consulate many times trying to understand dovizli service but the consulate people don't speak or understand English too well and wanted to see if anyone here can help. I know that there is a new law that passed for bedelli military service for 1
