  1. Hi everyone. I'm looking for advice as usual. We're a couple in our early 40s, we work online, we don't have a car, we still don't know Turkish, we have a cat, and we're ready to leave Istanbul. We're hoping to find a nice and affordable town on the west coast to settle in and buy property. I've read almost every post and advice posted here and elsewhere on where to move and I've researched every town or village that's been suggested. So after much research (mostly online for now), I think we found that Kusadasi ticks most boxes so we're going to move there in October, rent a place for a couple of months, and look for property. What we like about it is that it's not too small or remote, it's not empty during the winter season, there's an expat community, the ladies beach area seems to have nice streets with trees, which is quite important for us, and, most importantly, the prices of apartments and even houses or semidetached homes are within our range. I am a bit worried about the earthquake risk there, it seems to be even worse than in Istanbul, and we're not sure if these houses or semi-detached homes we've found are built according to regulations and well insulated or if they're built on the cheap as summer homes. We also have concerns about general infrastructure in that part of Turkey (electricity, reliable internet connection.. etc.). We have a colleague who lives in the greater Izmir region and he constantly complains about power outages. Obviously, we'll have a better sense when we relocate, and if we don't like Kusadasi, we'll have to start looking elsewhere -- but where exactly? I realize Fethiye seems to be a very popular choice and we will eventually visit it, but so far every place I've seen on Sahibinden that was affordable seemed to be located on a wide and empty street with no sign of trees and just residential property on either side. These streets looked isolating, lonely, and quite ugly. Perhaps Didim could be an alternative option. Anyway, I'm curious to hear you impressions of these three places or other areas I've not considered, maybe some of you have developed a fresh perspective after these months under lockdown. Is there anyone for example who really dislikes Kusadasi? If so, why?
  2. I'm researching various sitesi around Calis beach in Foca Mh and Akarca Mh to purchase a detached villa. Which sitesi do you recommend for high built quality, modern, family oriented and quite (as opposed to a sitesi that most of their villas being rental holiday homes, noisy and popular for late night parties)? We have a small dog, are most sitesi pet friendly? Is bbq allowed in our backyard? Thanks
  3. My wife and I moved to Izmir from Canada recently. We're researching and exploring other cities such as Fethiye, Kas, and Koycegiz. We plan to rent a car next week and stay in these 3 cities a few nights to get a feel of the place and if we like them, we'll come back again to explore more. We're looking for a place with warmer weather than Izmir (Izmir has been quite cold this February); more green places such as forests, large parks, ... for morning runs or evening strolls as opposed to a large city with lots of buildings and shopping malls; a live city so it's not dead in the winter; and finally a city that has a large expat community living there. I don't like big cities and my wife doesn't like small villages so we hope to find a place in the middle to please both of us. A quick background about us, we're both in our 40s, without children, and working remotely. We're not much into dining or bars, but more into nature, picnic, and outdoor activities. I'd appreciate if you can recommend good and safe neighbourhoods in above cities, preferably the ones with expat community living there. We plan to live in a sitesi (residential complex) with 24/7 security and a swimming pool. Also, I would appreciate if you can share your experience, views and tips about these cities please. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi, I was hoping those living in Turkey can provide some insight on this.. Which cities among Antalya, Bursa, Fethiye, Izmir & Bodrum rank better compared to each other on factors such as cost of living, employment opportunities, quality of life etc. Thanks
  5. Hi every one .. we also moving to turkey we are thinking to move to fethiye.. but i want to know if there schools teatching english and arabic .. if there is please put there names .. thanks
  6. Hi everyone and thanks in advance if you know the answers. I have agreed to sell my apartment in calis to a Turkish buyer who wants me to send a photocopy of the tapu to see if there is any outstanding loans and debts against the property. My questions are: 1. Would it be safe to send it? I.e can it be used to gain anything against my wishes. ( scam me out of property) 2. Is this normal practice? 3. Could this wait until I fly out to conplete the sale? Again many thanks if you can help
  7. Well, I'm not in Fethiye now.. I lived there for almost five years.. I liked that still-traditional town, despite all the money flowed into owing to tourism, it was a typical farming zone. I spent most of my time among farmers, actually I studied farming in Fethiye, hoping to grow tomatos in a greenhouse. Whenever I met a group of expats , at a cafe or somewhere similar, or on the road, I just felt like saying 'hey,do you know TC? maybe we already met there! But actually I never attempted to say something like that, I just walked away thinking that I would be passing by someone I know.. I moved to a town of Burdur, to study herbs used in herbal medicine. Maybe one day I would turn back to Fethiye..

  9. Hi all, Going to Turkey for the first time in a few weeks and staying at a friends place in Fethiye. I'd like to do some off road driving around the area. I've looked about on the internet and can only see safari type deals were you get driven around, not what I'm looking for. We have hired a Jeep which maybe suitable for basic off-roading but would think about organised off-roading in better/more capable vehicle if that was an option. I've owned a Land Rover in the UK and have done plenty of off-roading in that so know what I'm doing. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you, Chris.
  10. Hi everyone! New to this site but looking for some advice. I'm a recently qualified CELTA teacher and a graduate of Psychology. I'm looking for a teaching job at either a state/private school or language school in fethiye but finding it difficult to find any info! Any suggestions or does anyone know of any vacancies? Thanks!!!
  11. This is the entrance to the REAL Yakapark. If you don't see this, you're at one of the imitations along the way.
  12. It's important that you find this sign. Opportunists have opened imitations along the way, even using the same name, to fool tourists into going to their restaurant instead of the real Yakapark. Don't be fooled. Check the photo of the entrance to the real Yakapark to make sure you're at the right one.
  13. Hell forum: I recently applied for a Librarian job at the International Mediterranean Academy in Mugla which is a small town in Fethiye. Based on my online research, this is a reputable school. They would like to set up an interview with me via Skye as I am shortlisted for the job offer. I need to think about my decision, if the job is offered to me and think about pros and cons. Here are some questions for anyone who has lived/worked in Mugla or nearby: 1. What is the social scene like? I realize there are lots of expats living there, but is there a decent population of Turkish people with whom I can socialize and learn their culture through? 2. Are there lots of fun, entertainment-related and cultural events and things to enjoy? 3. Are the living costs cheaper compared to say, Istanbul? I would really really appreciate if anyone can give me any information moving, living and working in this area. Thanks very much! Goldie
