  1. I just got my Ziraat bank credit card, I used it twice last 2 weeks for a small amount at the supermarkets. I checked my account almost 10 days after purchase time and no money has been withdrawn from my account. I wonder: when they will deduct the amounts from my account? and will there be any interest, which I have to pay for this period from time of purchase til withdrawn time?
  2. Hello! It turns out Turkish banks/Turkish government won't open bank accounts for Lebanese, Ukrainian, Georgian, or Iranian nationals. I assume the list of banned nationalities is longer, but these are the countries I remember. I tried with 4 different banks, Yapi Kredi, Garanti, Ziraat and HSBC, and I made sure to tell them I'm planning to make regular transfers and actively use the Turkish account, not just transfer/withdraw and disappear, and I offered whatever guarantees they may need. The first three just rejected me on the grounds of nationality, one bank checked with "a gover
  3. i tried to see my adresse on e Devlet but I couldn’t. I tried to open a account at garanti and they told me they couldn’t find my adresse. So I tried it myself Does anyone know what I have to do ?
  4. Today my Turkish bank account was credited with 8700 Turkish lira from Saudi Arabia. This was unexpected and I do not know anyone in Saudi Arabia. Could this be part of a scam(how would that work) or is it more likely to be an error? Any way I will go to the bank branch tomorrow to inform them that I was not expecting that money.
  5. Hi all. I'm thinking of moving to Turkey and wondered if you have any personal experience with deposits in Turkish banks. The interest rate on deposits I was quoted is so high that it seems incredible to me, but if it is reliable I would think about this option. So I'd like to get some information from someone who has made a similar investment. Can you give me any pointers, or do you know someone who can? Thanks in advance!
  6. Some transactions, such as opening your first bank account in Turkey, require a tax number. Having and providing a tax number doesn't necessarily mean that you will owe taxes in Turkey. But having one is essential for getting certain things done, such as opening a bank account to deposit money, to prove you can support yourself financially, when you apply for a residence permit. To get your tax number, go to any local vergi odası, or tax office. Tell them that you want a vergi numarası, or tax number. Give the clerk your passport. They will enter your information into a database, then giv
  7. First thank you for reading my question this is my first post I'm new here in Turkey and I have just received my residency permit. I wanted to open a bank account with Ziraat Bankası but I started coming across red flags as I was reading online like "Turkey is a high risk country!" and "The bank's credit card might not work online at all" etc, so I want to know are these concerns valid and/or is there a way around them? I just want to highlight that online shopping from (Amazon US)is very important to me so if I'm not going to be able to do so.. is there a work around it? Your a
  8. I am coming Turkey with wife on a tourist visa and plan to apply for a short term residence to understand the business environment and to open a small business there. Which online form to be needed to fill out for my wife? Is it same one as me? And how can I open bank account without residence permit?
  9. If you go to the bank to transfer money into someone's bank account, you can do so for free, as long as it is the same bank, and as long as that person's account is with the specific bank branch you happen to be in. But if their account is at another branch, it will cost you. To deposit 100 TL for someone at another branch, for example, it will cost you a 40 TL fee. And if you use a bank machine, or "bankamatik," it's free. Here's some useful information about how to do it using the touch-screen bank machines, obtained from İşbank. Kartsiz Para Yatırmak (Depositing Money With
  10. Hey Does anybody know about the interest of the vadeli hesap in Ziraat Bankasi? Two years ago it gave me 8 percent as far as I remembered for 10000 tl. It means that, every month it pays extra money for my main account. 65 tl for months with 30 days. It is not a yearly vadeli and the advantage is that you could withdraw any time you want without fare (ceza) Please give me information.
  11. Hello everyone! Maybe you can help me sort this out. I went to open a bank account as part of the documention for the residency and they told me I need the Foreigner ID number besides the Tax number (which I already have). Is this Foreigner ID number the one you can ask for at a Nufus office? Or where can I get this number prior to acquiring the residency... Also I use to have one when I lived here before and it is now dated/due but will it be the same as the new one I will get? Thanks for your feedback!
  12. Recently at Ziraat bank in Urla / Izmir, I asked to take out 1000 EUR in cash from my EUR account. They asked me if I was sure because the fee to do this is 45 TL. Seems very high and I really expect to be able to take out my money for free ... not a fan of banks anyway. Can this be correct? I am planning to open an account with another bank because nobody at the Urla branch seems to speak any English whatsoever.
  13. Greetings, I have relative who own a few bank accounts in garanti , isi bank , ziraat and his accounts become dormant because the banks couldn't reach him because he was outside turkey in the last 10 years . are there any possibility to retrieve the money from TMSF again?
  14. HI If you open a GBP or USD bank account in Turkey do you still receive the high (8-10%) interest rate? Thanks
  15. I've been living in Turkey for 3 years and for special occasions my family makes small deposits into my US bank account and I withdrawl the money in lira at an ATM with a very small fee. My US bank account has recently been closed. I'm wondering what is the cheapest way for my family to send money besides Western Union because it's non emergency and those fees are too high.
  16. Good afternoon I have just got a job in a nursery in Istanbul and will be moving in August, and wondered if people could give me some advice please? Is 4500TL a good wage? How do I go about finding accommodation? What are the start up costs like (e.g deposits etc) Is the commuting really as bad as everyone says it is? How do I go about getting a bank account? Is it easy to make new friends? What are the best supermarkets? I know I have asked a lot of questions but I'm sure that you lovely people can help Thanks in advance
