  1. Last week left our Mersin apartment on Thursday afternoon headed to our new place in Antalya. We drove half way and stopped at a hotel where there were only two other guests. On the way to Antalya we went past some of the biggest greenhouses I have seen - used for growing bananas. We arrived at Antalya on the Friday afternoon - to another hotel as our furniture and goods were not due to arrive at the new apartment until Saturday morning. The removal company decided that because access was limited they needed three more men to do the job so we paid for that. Everything was in and furniture assembled by late afternoon and we spent some hours unpacking. We also got the internet connected and air conditioning installed. Sunday was more unpacking and haircuts for me and the boys. We have been having takeaway food delivered as we don't yet have the gas connected. Sunday evening I listened to a lecture a friend was giving on Zoom "Listening to the Underverse: Gravitational-Wave Astronomy" My wife has ordered many curtains. It was rather hot over the weekend, reaching 41°C on Sunday, down to 37°C today, so we found that more air conditioning was needed, that has now been fitted. We have been sorting out out the natural gas supply and still need to as residents of Antalya. We have to complete our registration here as Antalya is a different province to Mersin, the process takes a few days, but once finished and we have our new ID cards I will be automatically registered with the Turkish state health system. As I am married to a Turkish citizen I qualify for free treatment, though I do have to pay for prescriptions. Still have lots of unpacking to do, but feeling rather exhausted..
  2. (I wasn't sure what category to post this under, so move as necessary I will be in Antalya for the summer (July and August), staying in the Muratpasa area, and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to cope with the heat? I was advised that I shouldn't go outdoors from 11-17:00, is that accurate? Is it humid or a dry heat? Also, going to the beach and on day trips- should I plan for early mornings or later in the afternoons? I am a woman from the US and will be there by myself, so I would also love to meet up with some expats and/or an expat group if anyone can point me in the right direction on where to find out about meetups and events? Last question - I have quite a few tattoos and since I haven't been to Turkey in many years, I was wondering if it is advisable to wear clothing that covers them up in the area where I am staying? Obviously near the beach and tourist areas I am not too concerned.. but just curious because last time I traveled around Turkey I got a few "tsk-tsks" from men in different cities (even Izmir) because I didn't have them covered. Thanks in advance, everyone
  3. Hi I just created this topic to help everybody who needs to have an idea about areas in Antalya, especially for those who are coming to live here. Unfortunately, I personally do not have a clear idea about areas here so if you think you can help, please add what you know. For example Lara area: beaches, hotels, residential buildings. anything else? Konyaalti: Easy access to the beach wıth the new waterfront, hotels, closer to the center ... which area ın Konyaalti is better for a famıly? Anythıng else? Liman:? Any input wıll greatly be appreciated. Please take a moment to help and thanks in advance.
  4. I've been living in Izmir, or thereabouts, for many years. Farthest away from Izmir, I lived in Çeşme, at the end of the peninsula which juts out from the south part of Izmir. I spent a year there. Çeşme is very dead in the winter, to the point that I think it would be maddening for me, yet I do miss it because it's so quiet. In Çeşme, during the off season, everything's closed, and it's as if everyone goes into hibernation. The expats in Çeşme, mostly Brits, seem to go home early, so the winter months are exceedingly dull. I'm planning to move south, to leave Izmir. My main choices are Fethiye, Antalya, and Kaş. Fethiye I've been too, but it doesn't seem to have much charm for me, except for some very beautiful coastline and of course, Ölüdeniz. Now that opinion was based only on a visit of a few days, so I'm sure I don't have the full picture. During the summer, I visited Antalya. Antalya seems like a city which has a lot going for it, and wouldn't die during the winter. I think the ideal place for me would be where I could live in a reasonably quiet place, but be able to get to the city easily for those things that cities offer, and of course, beaches and sea, I must have those! While in Antalya I met with Fil, a resident of Antalya. I asked Fil where, if he could live anywhere in Turkey, that would be. Fil said, "Kaş." That's where Cukurbagli lives. Fil went on to say that Antalya is indeed seasonal, like a lot of other places which depend on tourism. He said there was a rather active expat life in Antalya as well, so I wouldn't feel so isolated. But in the end he said that he would like to live in Kaş. I've never seen Kaş, and I intend to visit it soon, during the off-season, to see what it's like during the off season. This is a very vague topic starter, I know, about as vague as my thoughts about moving down to the South Aegean or the Mediterranean. So I don't even know what I'm asking for here, I'm just soliciting comments! Where is the best place to live?

    Kolej Help

Hey everyone, New to the forum and thought this would be the best avenue for my question(s). I'm currently working in a kindergarten but looking to move on hopefully to a kolej. I have a CELTA and about 7 years ESL teaching under my belt. I know that there are a lot of super qualified teachers that work in the private big schools here in Antalya but I was just wondering what my chances would be with just having a CELTA and experience? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
  6. Hi, I'm relocating to Antalya and considering renting a villa in Palm City (or similar compound with like facilities: 24 hour security, indoor/outdoor pools, gym, etc). Do you, or anyone you know have any experience in Palm City? Are there any other compounds (within 30 mins to the heart of Antalya) that you would recommend also considering? Any recommendations and/or feedback would be appreciated; especially on issues that are not highlighted in the glossy company brochures (like potential electricity cuts, sewerage/drainage odours, noise, etc). Guidance appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Dean

  15. My wife, children, and me are considering a move to Izmir or Antalya from New York City. My wife is a Turkish citizen and my citizenship was just recently approved and received my kimlik this past Friday (Woo hoo!). My wife was born and raised in Istanbul and has a strong desire to return to that area, but I am looking for a place a little less crowded, but still has a large International community. I had originally thought Izmir may be that city but after some research I'm finding the community is all but gone. So..... Where would you guys recommend? I am a professional Chef having worked in various Michelin rated restaurants through-out NYC and am considering opening a small restaurant once we arrive. Having checked out Sahibinden everyday for the past year, I'm fairly certain rent's are very comparable for a nice place. I have also found some nice restaurant properties at very good prices in Antalya (Hoping tourism isn't suffering too much causing this). Anyways, I could run on for a quite a long time, but I look forward to hearing what several of you have to say. Hoping to have made a move within the month.

  20. A cruise and yacht port to be built in Antalya Ground and sea studies to construct a cruise and a yacht port in the world-famous tourist city of Antalya are underway. According to a written statement by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, the city, which is already a center of tourism due to its historic and natural beauties, will become one of the most important spots for cruise tourism once the port has been constructed. The statement indicates that the Cruise and Yacht Port project is one of the "visionary" projects that Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Menderes Türel wants to bring to the city. Within the framework of standards set by the Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Ministry, ground and sea exploration studies are being carried out at the west end of Lara's Birlik Beach where the port will be built. The studies, conducted in accordance with a settlement plan, do not negatively affect nature or the environment. Technical reports and detailed results of the studies will be analyzed by the Environment and Urban Planning Ministry. The port project will be actualized through the cooperation of the said ministries and the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. The port will be able to harbor large passenger ships near the city center, leading to a boom in tourism in the city. The port will have the capacity to harbor an impressive number of passenger ships: two 345-meter ships, one 150-meter ship and four 100-meter cruise vessels along with 426 yachts. Thousands of tourists are expected to arrive in Antalya by sea, bringing an invigorating wave of tourism. Source: Daily Sabah
