  1. It's next to the Western beach, about three kilometers from city center on Ataturk Bulvari.
  2. The Alanya area is the only place in Turkey where bananas are grown. They're smaller and a bit sweeter than those you've probably had.

  4. I must apologize because some of the photos were taken while I was in a bus. These are a couple pictures of Alanya.
  5. Before I went to Dim Cay this week I heard of lot of rumours - there is only one restaurant there now open - the river has all dried up - the dam is gone there. All false I am glad to tell you. The place is lovely. There are lots of restaurants to choose from there and all have the floating pontoons in the river. I attach a photo of my day out there with a few friends.
  6. Hi all, I'm planning a winter trip to Turkey. I would very much appreciate some firsthand accounts of the weather in Alanya (or elsewhere mild along the south coast) I was told Alanya tended to be relatively mild but also humid and rainy. Is this so? Bearing in mind I'm from England - how rainy is rainy, we've probably had more here in July? Are there many cold evenings?
  7. Can anyone help me with some information please? I am looking to travel from Tasucu port to Alanya by road. Has anyone done this? If so, can you tell me how long the journey was?
  8. I just want it give back something to forum about My home town Alanya. I am thinking it best to start with words of great explorer Ibni Battuta. He said "We reached Alaya (Alanya) where the province begins. This country is one of the best in the world, in it God has united the good features dispersed throughout other lands. Its people are the most comely of men, the cleanest in their dress, the most exquisite in their food, and the kindliest folk in creation." -- Ibni Battuta, Traveler and explorer circa A. 10. Areas of Alanya Demirtas Mahmutlar Oba Cikcilli Tosmur Alanya Centre Konakli Avsallar Incekum After Alanya there is a town called Gazipaşa, with the local airport. The Antalya airport is a 1 hour and 45 minutes drive from Alanya centre, and the Gazipaşa airport is 40 minutes' drive. The tourism season lasts 12 months a year, since we have an average of 300 days of sunshine. The new highway between Alanya and Antalya airport was completed in 2004. There are friendly and hospital local people, who will invite you to drink tea in their homes, or even join their dinner! Alanya is rich in culture, history, wonderful nature, international supermarkets like Tesco (Kipa), Metro (Makro), Tansas and Migros, modern private hospitals with European standards, and a wide range of activities and opportunities for sightseeing, make Alanya the famous touristic town as we all know. Alanya Beaches Kleopatra Beach Kleopatra beach is one of the most famous beaches in Alanya. It is a sandy, blue-flag beach. There is a small bay next to it. According to the mythology Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, during a voyage in Mediterranean, stopped in Alanya and had a swim in this bay. The special feature of Cleopatra Bay is that the clearness of its water. People who are looking for a long swimming route can swim along the coast to Fosforlu Cave along the peninsula. Alara Beach Alara Beach extends almost two kilometers from Alara creek to Karaburun Bay. It has fine sand. It is well maintained and there is a small island in the bay just off of the beach. Incekum beach Incekum Beach is approximately one kilometer long, and famous for its very fine sand. You can hire umbrella and sun beds at this beach. It is definitely our favorite beach! Konaklı Beach Konaklı Beach is nearly ten kilometers long. It is all sand, with small rocks giving it a natural look. Along the beach are buffets and restaurants. Water sports equipment is available. Portakal beach To the east of the city centre, Portakal Beach is around one kilometer long. It is also a sandy, blue-flag beach. As a part of Keykubat Beach, it starts from the place where Oba Creek reaches the sea and finishes where the Dim Creek reaches the sea. Behind the beach rise the magnificent slopes of the Taurus Mountains. In some parts the beach is 100 kilometers wide. It is possible to get service from refreshment stalls or the beach cafes of the hotels. Water sports equipment is available here as well. You can also learn windsurfing from the instructors who work at the hotels. The water is cool where the creeks reach the sea.
  11. Can someone tell me if there is an Orthodox church in Alanya or in the cities around?
  12. The Dim River, or Dim Çayı in Turkish, is around 8 km away from Alanya to east. The river is running all the way from Konya, around 200 km. It is very popular with tourists and also local people drive there. There are even places to have your own BBQ. You can escape the heat of Alanya and relax next to the cool water. The water is never warm, no matter how hot the weather would be. There are many many restaurants along the water and you can find a place to sit in "a floating hut" or even up in the trees. Most of the restaurants have delicious fish dishes made of fresh fish from the river. Some of the restaurants even have water slides and other water toys, but there are also more quiet places further away from the activities where you might find lovers relaxing or older people like me reading and sleeping. You can take a taxi to take you there. Discuss the price beforehand with the driver. Maybe someone has an idea, which is a good amount to pay for a taxi. If Alanya is too hot, Dim Çayı never is. It is really refreshing to swim in the river. There is a bus from Alanya that will drop you at the bottom (entrance) but you will need a taxi to explore.
