The Daily Sabah newspaper reported yesterday that Turkey is to introduce a new animal rights law, which will forbid people keeping more than three dogs per household. Ozlem Zengin, the Vice Chair of the ruling Justice and Development Party( AK Party) stated that the new law will be presented to Parliament within two weeks.
Also within this legislation will be the proviso that all pets must be chipped. If a pet is found abandoned on the street, the owner will face a fine of up to 10,000tl. People can also be imprisoned for torture and harming animals.
Pets will no longer be sold in pet shops. The selling of pets will only be possible under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
This new legislation will not only regulate the rights of cats and dogs, but will also include other animals , reptiles and insects including bees and fish.

According to Daily Sabah Newspaper, Turkey will soon receive 10 million doses of the Chinese CoronaVac.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Fahrettin Koc stated that 6.5 million doses will arrive on Monday 25th January. This is the second batch Turkey has received.
The vaccination process began on the 13th of January after the first batch of 3 million doses was received. To date, 1,200,000 people have been vaccinated. This number includes 600,000 health workers in the first two days.
