  4. Apologies if this has been covered in another thread... Does anyone know what the position would be if a person were to sell a property in the UK whilst being tax resident in Turkey? I'm thinking of a property which would not be liable for capital gains tax in the UK (as it had been one's sole residence). We're hoping to sell before we move out - that's certainly what our advisor has advised, but we were wondering if anyone had certain knowledge on this point. H.
  5. We are wondering whether it is possible to set up a Lira account before we move to Turkey. We are not sure what the options might be, HSBC springs to mind, AK and Garanti seem to have branches in London. We are equally unsure whether a Turkish Tax number might be needed. If it is possible to set up a Lira account for use in Turkey before we move there what the steps we need to take? Any wisdom or tales of experience with setting up Lira accounts would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the warm welcome. Much appreciated. Ashley and Hilary
  7. By way of introduction (as we have been lurking here for too long). There are two of us, Ashley and Hilary. We are currently in London, UK We work for the NHS and are planning to retire early, in a little over a year. One of us has been working hard to learn Turkish (and trying to teach the other). We then intend to live in Turkey, almost certainly in Selcuk. We intend to buy a property but renting and a tourist visa are options at first. Long term we would be looking at residency, a TAPU, sorting our own ADSL, Lira accounts, tax number, and all the rest. Oh, and a motorcycle for which we might bring or buy in Turkey, either way will no doubt be complicated. No doubt we will have many questions. But for now.... Merhaba. Ashley and Hilary.
