  1. Many thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. It’s been a bit confusing as the info is not explicit. In the U.K. the law is much clearer but that’s probably because it’s in English and I understand it! :O)
  2. Thank you for this update but I think we’re moving away from my issue. I fully agree to complying with the contractual terms but the issue is that the landlord states I should have ‘automatically increased my payment on the renewal date’. I understood that he would contact me to advise me of the rent increase, which would give me the option of negotiation or move out. Plus I also believe he can’t legally backdate my rent for the last 3 years. I’m ok and understand all the other info but I’m still unclear if it is my responsibility to automatically increase my rent with out confirmation from the landlord - I understand he should have written to me 30 days before advising of the change to the conditions of contract otherwise the terms and conditions say the same for the following year.
  3. Hi there and many thanks for your information. My contract states ‘Rental amount shall be increased every year but not more than CPI moving average.’ However, it doesn’t explicitly say that it is the responsibility of the lessee to automatically increase that payment. Kind regards Vickie
  4. Redders and Ken Thank you so much for your time to reply. I already knew what you said and I was sure I was right in my research I of the law but sometimes you just have a little doubt and then you’re not so sure! I’ll drop him a note tonight and let’s see what happens. Thank you again ;O) Vickie
  5. Hello, I’m looking for legal advice for the following situation. I work in Turkey and have been renting for 3 years (date of rental agreement start 25 Oct). My rent has never been increased, however my landlord has written to me advising that I need to pay 3 years backdated rent and the increase according CPI for 3 years and says it was my responsibility to automatically increase it without the need for the landlord to advise of the increase amount. My contract does not say it is my responsibility to automatically do this nor can I find any reference in the Turkish rental law to this ‘undocumented’ agreement. What I can find is that he should contact me prior to the rent renewal date advising if the increase amount, which would give an opportunity to negotiate or terminate. My lease agreement has clauses that say the lease will be renewed for another year at the same terms and conditions if the landlord does not contact me but my landlord says this has nothing to do with the increase in rent. I feel I am being intimidated and want to know if what he says is correct. who can I speak to about some good Turkish law legal advice? Many thanks vickie
  6. Hi there, wondered if anyone can help. I work in Turkey and have been renting for 3 years (date of rental agreement start 25 Oct). My lease agreement has clauses that say the lease will be renewed for another year at the same terms and conditions if the landlord does not contact me but my landlord says this has nothing to do with the increase in rent. Can anyone point me to the relevant clause of the Turkish rent law that says the lessee should automatically pay the full CPI level without confirmation from the landlord? Many thanks vickie
