  1. Just to let people know me and my wife's got our residence permits 2 weeks after appointment date (2 days after our expiration date). The new cards look pretty neat.
  2. Hey all, me and my wife will be applying for our renewals for our residence permits. We initially applied for 2 years for our first application (and in turn got 2 years of private health insurance). Sadly, we only got accepted for one year on our residency. But its the time of year where we must apply for our residency again, and we'll be applying for just one year, are we able to use the health insurance we put for the first time as it'll be valid within the time frame?
  3. Not to hijack the thread but has the Chios port opened for ferries?
  4. ^^ I did read somewhere that if you have a medical condition that will prevent you from serving in the military, you will be excused, if you have hospital documentation to back it up. I'm sure the embassy should know something about this. @Ken Grubb Great stuff on the docs you made, one thing to mention is that in the embassy they might want to request both parents physically present for the process, no ifs ands or buts (I faced that in the US at their embassy).
  5. I'm not Ken but I'll jump in with my knowledge. Btw, you don't have to google the exact process because I believe it's barely done, feel free to be the first though!! I recommend just researching the parts that you need. Btw: I'm American so please do more research as I'm not entirely sure. Birth Certificate: I found these links might be of help: https://www.apostille.org.uk/birth-certificates https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised After you get that Apostilled you should get it translated and notarized (The embassy might help you with that part) A criminal record I'm not sure in the UK but in the USA we'd have to be in the USA get fingerprinted and send it to the FBI for a check after 6 months they send you your record, if you're good then it'll say so. (Again I'm American and not sure of the UK process) As for health, you might wanna double check if the embassy wants someone they know to check or if you're free to choose you're own doctor. I personally might be doing this process soon but I'm in Turkey right now with a RP so I'm sure it's different.
  6. Just to send an update on my question, I believe it is allowed to own just land for a RP as long as you have a plan to build something there within 2 years of obtaining the land. I believe this provision is written in the recent law of Law No. 6302, if someone would like to view it.
  7. I see what you mean, so with doc martins site he is correct because there used to be a provision where if you had Turkish descent (Great-Great-Grandfather was Turkish) then you'd be able to get citizenship but that is no more, So that's what doc martin was trying to say. He can correct me if I'm wrong if he sees this post. As for the embassy site make sure you have the right forms because back in the States the embassy gave me like 4 different forms, I'm sure if you go there personally they might be able to help.
  8. What website did you read that from? Is it possible to double check with the embassy by calling or emailing them. I actually might start this process soon
  9. Ouch sorry to hear that. I know someone trying to get back to Turkey but they're going via Ukraine and they're tickets are still on I think, I'll double check
  10. Me and my wife fully have our ikamets (residence permits) and are now settled in Ankara, thank you to both Martin for the amazing docs you have set up and also thank you to Ken for running this forum with the helpful guides as well! (I'll discuss me and my wife's residence permit fun on another post) So, I have two friends that are out of Turkey (They both have residence permits and own an apartment here). They plan to fly back to Turkey as soon as possible, which I believe its June 4th but I hear it got pushed a week further? The general question is, will they be allowed on a flight to Istanbul from their country of origin with their residence permits? Or will they be denied boarding?
  11. Gonna jump on this and ask a question. My wife has 2 middle names and so does her parents, how will we enter that information in the adi, soyadi, etc. boxes?
  12. In the U. S. you can get a police record from either at the State level or the Feds. I wonder if the embassy here can help assist with that? Or maybe they'll just tell you to scram
  13. Will owning just land be enough to get a RP on the basis of owning "immovable property"
  14. Hmm, so I guess it's pretty true. I guess we have to wait and see. But what really concerns me is the "should not" apply to certain nationalities which makes the limbo worse. I'll be wanting to stay and house hunting for the first few years I arrive in Turkey, hopefully they'll allow a residence permit for that reason.
  15. So I've been seeing rumors that to obtain a residence permit after January 2020, you must have a good reason to stay that is satisfactory for immigration to approve. Property, business, going to a uni., training. But I didn't see the reason for extending your "touristic stay" aka just to live there. Wondering if there is some truth to this rumor?
  16. If you actually type in sahibinden.com/en it'll bring you to the English translation of the website. It works pretty okay. Their app has the English translation as well you just have to dig for it on the sidebar.
  17. @Izmir Ted Thanks for the response! But yeah we were looking to be around that area and we want to be close to transportation but being walking distance to supermarkets and such but Narlidere sounds since they'll be extending the metro to there.
  18. Just would like to bump this thread and ask what are some good neighborhoods to live in? Looking somewhere more close around Narlibahce, Guzelbahce, Urla. How's safety, closeness to transportation, and what not.
  19. Thanks for all the answer so far! Another question though. My wife has a different last name than mine, would obtaining a RP still be a problem? and once we both are able to obtain citizenship, will she be able to change her last name to my last name or even can she do it with applying for the RP? Thanks again everyone!
  20. We have our marriage certificate apostilled and translated into Turkish, will they want it notarized by someone in Turkey as well? Will our passports have to be apostilled as well?
  21. We have our marriage certificate apostilled and translated into Turkish, will they want it notarized by someone in Turkey as well? Also would a joint Turkish bank account will do? Do credit card limits count as well?
  22. I would like to know if anyone has information on obtaining a RP for a spouse (both are not Turkish citizens). Or will my spouse have to go through the same process as me? What if I'm the sole income person that can sustain both of us, how will my spouse be able to prove that she can live off of the RP requirements. As I know there isn't a set rule on income requirements for the RP, what is a good rule of thumb? Just above the minimum wage in Turkey?
  23. Maybe justin or anyone else can help me with this question. Let's say a family member in Turkey has a home that is valued over $250k usd, and sells you the property for $5, is that legal loophole to do to obtain citizenship?
