  1. Yeah they called me on Wednesday. They were surprised that I was the one who picked up the phone -- they wanted to speak with with someone who could speak on my behalf. When I said I could speak for myself they said "Oh are you in Turkey?" and said that after confirming this they'd be giving an OK to Ankara to issue my RP. Apparently they messed up thinking I was applying from my home country. Go figure.
  2. I can confirm they are saying it takes up to 90 days to receive your renewed RP. I went there yesterday, and the GÖÇ officer didn't bother checking my application in their system but insisted I should wait.
  3. It's been 3 weeks for me, no news either. Folks applying for their first RP in Istanbul are receiving the much awaited SMS from the PTT within a week. Anybody else has news on that -- especially people renewing their RP?
  4. You do not need to send your passport -- photocopies will do. Once you submit your application online you'll be able to print a document with your info, photo, (new) residence permt expiry date. This doc states you have submitted your application and can freely leave and reenter Turkey within 15 days.
  5. KabaSakal, treeinstanbul: when making your application in the new system, was there a field for you to put your appointment number in the old system?
  6. thanks for this update, friends. I'll try mine again once I arrive home tonight. KabaSakal, the beauty of this community is that when we're in trouble, we're all in trouble together. When one of us rants, it's like all of us are ranting together.
  7. Same one? Applications for extension shall be made within sixty days prior to the expiration of the residence permit and, in any case, before the expiration of the residence permit.[106] Or "We are not able to locate a residence permit record with the information you've provided. Check the information you've entered and try again.[104]" ?
  8. UPDATE: I realize my mistake now -- within sixty days -- so that means I'd have to wait until I'm withing those 60 days. treeinstanbul, guess that is your case then? _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Ok, I'm getting a different error message now: Applications for extension shall be made within sixty days prior to the expiration of the residence permit and, in any case, before the expiration of the residence permit.[106] I have more than 60 days to go, so what the heck.
  9. rsdunya, are you trying to make a new application or renew an existing one?
  10. Yes, that does make me concerned too. I was hoping to finally get an application in the system and show up at the Migration Office with all the docs and show them my passport, but take it with me -- without an RP or passport we have no identification at all.
  11. Don't think so. Mine expires on July 27, which means I am not over those 60 days. Plus, I had an appointment in the old system. Did anybody manage to make an appointment so far?
  12. What if I just want to renew my short-term RP, which expires in July? The "Applications for Extension" doesn't seem to be working for me.
  13. What did you try, treeinstanbul? Renewing a RP or first application?
  14. I don't think it's that, because if you try to make a first application you can pretty much go through all screens. I'm guessing the old database is somehow still not connected to the new system thus our RPs cant be found. And then we get that message: "We are not able to locate a residence permit record with the information you've provided. Check the information you've entered and try again.[104]"
  15. Legend goes that they open new slots every morning around 8-10 am. Not sure if it's true but I was only able to make appointments during these hours.
  16. Yeah, that was my case. After a month or so, I went to the police station and voila, it was there.
  17. Yeah, check this out: http://www.goc.gov.tr/main/Eng_3 Right now, the police is still taking care of residence permits, but this new directorate will establish offices for dealing with migration/rps etc. I suggest you take a good read at this: http://www.goc.gov.tr/files/files/YUKK_I%cc%87NGI%cc%87LI%cc%87ZCE_BASKI(1)(1).pdf
  18. Eruza, there are foreinger's bureaus in each district of Istanbul. Where do you live?
  19. Agree with all above, and adding a few: I like: Turkish hospitality. The closest I experienced to that was in the deep South in the US, but nothing beats the Turks. When I moved I was offered a lot of delicious dishes prepared by the neighbors. The Çay habit Kahvalti culture The way Turks love when yabancilar speak Turkish, and help us with those little mistakes I don't like: Censorship. Come on, we know those people are smoking and drinking raki. And I know what's going on the streets, why the media isn't covering? (I wish I had started living here before 2002, I guess) Queuing (anywhere) When the neighbors decide to clean their carpets... from their windows "Cold beer" means "cool beer"
  20. Yes, you probably spoke with Mustafa -- the cool cop in Kadikoy karakol They all started being much friendlier and helpful since the announcement of the new foreign's directory. Maybe they're happy to see that they won't be dealing with this kind of stuff soon?
  21. Redders, I'm not sure if that's the case. I have a 1 year, short term RP and am under the "foreigners who stay for touristic purposes" rule despite renting an apartment -- even had to provide a notarized copy of my contract to the police to renew my RP and get a RP card. Is that the case now that if you rent an apartment now you "own" immovable property in Turkey? If so, great -- I'd love to move away from being considered a tourist when I've been living here for almost 2 years and renting my own place.
  22. And this part "Information or document regarding the travel plan and accommodation location in case the management demands" (http://goc.gov.tr/files/files/1(2).pdf) Confuses me a bit. Wondering if this is the old requirement for proof of address (apartment/flat/hotel) or if something new is going to be required?
  23. I did -- but that was before the dreaded date of April 11, 2014. This was in December 2013. At Ataturk airport, I go to customs. I hand the policeman my passport. The guy looks at my passport, looks at the computer, and says I overstayed. I tell him I've applied for a residence permit, show him the receipt, and tell him I'll be back just in time to pickup my RP at the police station. He doesn't look at me nor care about what I am saying, and says I have to go to the tax office and pay a fine. But I do not go to the tax office -- instead, I head to the other side of the airport. There's another customs area there before the gates at the opposite side. I start looking for a more friendly cop -- there's a young man who kind of smiled at another yabanci, so I choose to stay in his line. I give him my passport, and before he mentions anything about overstaying, I hand him my application document and tell him I'll be back in a month to pick up my RP. He looks at the doc and tells me to go talks to his boss at the corner. I go to his boss, he's playing Candy Crush on his phone. I explain my situation. He asks for my flight ticket, writes "06/2014'e kadar ikamet var" on it and tells me go back to the same young policeman and show him the ticket. The guy lets me go through. Weeks later, I come back and show my application document at the customs again, but the policeman doesn't even look at it. He's too busy stamping my passport. And then let's me in.
