Relaxation of Restrictions and Curfews in Some Provinces of Turkey

By Morag Thomson, 02/03/21

The new 'normalization' process has begun in Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced yesterday for the provinces in the low and medium risk categories. Businesses were allowed to reopen and curfews at the weekends have been lifted. In the high and extremely high risk provinces, the lockdown will remain only for Sundays. While the night time curfew for weekdays will be extended to Saturday now.

In low and medium risk provinces, curfew restrictions for the over 65s and under 20s have been lifted. For the high and extremely high categories, the permitted time period has been increased by one hour. Over 65s can now go out between 10am and 2pm and the under 20s can go out between 2pm and 6pm.

Restaurants and cafes that are now able to reopen, will operate from 7am to 7pm and every customer must show their H.E.S(Hayat Eve Siğar~Life Fits into Home) Code.

More restrictions will be lifted or reintroduced dependent on the number of cases and the vaccine take up rate. President Erdogan stated that 10% of the population has been vaccinated so far.

Turkey has adopted a 4 tier system to assess the risk in each province. The map linked to this post shows the current situation in Turkey.

  • Red: Extremely high risk.
  • Orange: High risk.
  • Yellow: Medium risk.
  • Blue: Low risk.
