Reporting Your First Address
When you apply for your first residence permit or change your address, you must register your address with the Nüfus ve Vatandaşlık İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü (population and citizenship directorate, or "Nüfus") responsible for your area within twenty (20) business days after you receive your residence permit, or after you enter Turkey.
Take these documents with you:
- Your passport or another form of photo identification, such as a Turkish driving license
- Proof of address, such as your tapu (property title deed), your rental contract, a letter from a hotel showing that you are residing there, or documents from a marina showing that your yacht is moored there.
Registration with the Nüfus is especially helpful when you have to extend your residence permit. When renewing, you only need to go to the nüfus and get a Yerleşim Yeri ve Diğer Adres Belgesi (Place of Residence and Other Addresses Document). You can then include that with your extension application package, as proof of address.
If you move to another province, besides reporting your change of address to the nüfus, (within 20 business days) you must also go to the Göç İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü (Directorate General of Migration Management, or DGMM) within 10 business days and report your change of address so the DGMM can issue you a new residence permit card with the name of your new province on the back.
The change-of-address notification is done at the place you move to, and not at the place you are moving from.

The DGMM has a number you can call to speak to an immigration specialist. Call 157 from any telephone within Turkey. The call will be free. From outside of Turkey, call +90 312 157 1122. Long-distance charges will apply.
