In 324 AD, Constantine the Great brought the serpentine column from Delphi, Greece to commemorate a Greek victory over the Persians in 479 BC. At the top, the three serpents split off in three directions. The top is now lost except for a part of one of the serpent heads, on display at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum.
