Walled Obelisk, Hippodrome, Sultanahmet, Istanbul
Here you can see where gold-plated bronze plaques were affixed by Constantine VII, commemorations to the victories of his grandfather Basil I. These plaques were plundered during the fourth crusade. Later, Ottoman Janissaries would climb this obelisk as a test of courage, causing further damage.
