Grotto of the Seven Sleepers

According to legend, seven Christian men fled the Roman persecution of the Christians and hid in a cave here, where they fell asleep. When they awoke, they ventured into the city for food, finding that all of their friends and relatives were long dead, that there was no persecution, and that the city was now Christian. They were dressed in clothing from centuries previous, knowing only of things which had happened centuries ago. The governors of Ephesus were convinced that this was a miracle, and since that time, this place has been called the "Grotto of the Seven Sleepers."
