Tulip Mosque

Built by Mehmet Tahir Aga between 1759 - 63, the Tulip Mosque in Istanbul is the best example of a baroque-style mosque. Underneath the mosque is an underground marketplace, selling mostly clothing. The Buyuk Tas Hani (Big Stone Han) nearby was probably part of the mosque complex, and today is a pleasant place to shop or have a coffee. Under the han is yet another underground room, a period restaurant which puts on dinner shows with traditional Turkish music and performances.
