The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Europe, warning of a "high threat" of attacks in countries including France and Germany.

Previously it had advised only of a "general threat" but an FCO spokeswoman said the safety of Britons abroad was of major concern.

The US has also advised vigilance in Europe because of the threat of an unspecific al-Qaeda attack.

The UK's threat level, as set by the Home Office, remains severe.

Got a email from the US Embassy today with a warning to be careful in public places and public transportation. We are headed to Greece on the 13th. That should be fairly safe, as it will have to be outside terrorists. The Greeks cannot afford a bomb, and if they could they could not agree on where to put it. Now I will hide from my lovely Greek wife. SHE knows where to put it!

I have read so much about Al Quaida and I still don't know what they actually WANT?? Does anyone know? As far as I can see they are just a bunch of murdering cowards.

I read that the British and US security forces have suggested potential areas to be possibly targetted by Al Qaeda in London, Paris and Berlin, including Canary Wharf, Tower of London, Eiffel Tower, Alexanderplatz TV Tower, etc, etc.

Good of them to help Al Qaeda who will now presumably research other locations!

We feel safe and comfortable in the village of Çiftlikköy!

Well they've had Al Quaida bombs in Turkey before but I don't think they'll target our village:)

Al Quaida is:A radical Sunni Muslim umbrella organisation established to recruit young Muslims into the Afghani Mujahideen and is aimed to establish Islamist states throughout the world, overthrow ‘un-Islamic regimes’, expel US soldiers and Western influence from the Gulf, and capture Jerusalem as a Muslim city.

Thanks for the definition, Mitch. But in the unlikely event of them getting what they wanted, I doubt they'd stop killing people.

They must have been badly brought up to want their own way no matter what suffering it brings to other people. Ultimate selfishness!
They obviously don't realise that they are more likely to get converts if they go about it peaceably. :)
