Well I live at the bottom end of Istiklal (Taksim Square is the top) but judging from the gigantic police presence and helicopters overhead, it's a day to stay at home. My friend messaged me not to go out of the house but that was a bit exaggerated. I think however, in the later afternoon it could start to get bad. Even if there isn't any violence (and so far touch wood there isn't) the crowds out there are just too much. I went to the supermarket and had to cross Istiklal to get to it and it was quite manic. Feel a bit sorry for people who are on city breaks here and their travel agents didn't warn them. My gym is shut and quite a few other places are too but some are staying open for half days. To be honest the G20 was worse as I had to go out and about with my lawyer on that day and we both got the remants of pepper spray in our faces!

I was wondering how you were getting on with that as I know you live close by. Haven't seen any tv today as I keep popping into the garden to do some mowing. Glad to hear that it is not going badly yet.

It seems to be going peacefully but the crowds are just too much and in those sort of crowds there's the risk of pickpocketing. It's boring stuck at home but I'll go out tomorrow. At least I managed to pop out earlier to get some groceries.
