The new tourism season in the Mediterranean resort town of Kaş officially opened Sunday with parades of pipes and trumpets, folkloric dances and speeches full of good wishes.

Thanks for sharing that Abi.

I love Kas, but I don't think the article did it justice. I'm not really sure what the basis was for calling it a 'woman's town' or the emphasis on ex pat artists.

Kas has a lovely quality, and yes - compared to many resort towns, there was not that male 'waiter' culture there, and it was nice to see local businesses being run by women. Maybe that's what she was getting at - but I'd be far more interested to read the stories of local women rather than expats and tourists (no offence to either group........!!!!).

I would also like to have heard more about the ceremony, the business owners' hopes for the season, the events......

Maybe I missed the point, or maybe I'm just not a sculpture fan!!

Anyway - Kas is quaint, sleepy, restful, friendly and beautiful. And not over commercialised! It doesn't fit easily into the British tourism market, but maybe that's no bad thing.
