i have wanted to post this up for ages as i have been wondering what i remembered most about dalyan , well turkey when i 1st came here a few yrs back ( apart from falling in love on the 1st day i arrived!with my now hub)...actually it was this one shop....that when i entered i felt at home in...cant explain the feeling but im a real glass fan and fan of all things bright and colourful and i wished for many yrs (as an artist) i had worked with glass somehow as the technique blew my mind and i had found it hard to forget my italian trips when i fell in love with murano glass or my greek skopelos or was it Skiathos glass heaven.....i never remember which had most....but this shop in turkey did it as it was raw and every corner full of bits and bobs without the fuss and bother of some shops i had been in...
anyway if i were richer i would fill our house with stuff from this shop but we are slowly buying bits each time we pass that way and have a chat with the really nice owner...
hes cheaper than all other places we found on the coast and makes them himself.
he sells waterpipes (trying to stop hubs continual fascination with those!for health reasons), chess sets (i sooooo want to learn this), tea sets with all sorts of colours, lamps of so many kinds/colours you wont be able to choose just one! we recently got two as i couldnt decide! and also special boxes...and a mix of other stuff. the husband and wife owners are so nice and dont mind you just going to look around for as long as you like...he also makes whatever you ask for...dangerous ground for me..i had to pretend i couldnt understand (but i did and id love to design my own and he make it)....another time..
so to cut to it i think once in a blue moon i say visit somewhere if ur there
but this place go -as i support locals who i like and i like them and i always support anone who makes locally and is is a skilled craftsperson

shop is called seckin gift shop (sorry i dont have turkish letters on my laptop)
on Erkul street in Dalyan..can be found near the end of the main mini shop street where the small bars are...if it didnt have a name i guess it would be called bar street!
you will know it when you see it as its bright! :crying[1]:
he can pack them up to make safe for a journey and if you dont live here and want small he does small things just as interesting as the bigger ones...
and one last thing..they dont pounce on you to buy buy buy and thats a good start for any local buisiness in my opinion...
happy shopping :crying[1]:

ps. will take a pick when the new additions are hung and post it on here...some cable adjustments needed though as they can be quite lengthy some of them if used as a main /middle room lamp..til now we have used smaller one as display with candles but wanted ones for elec light now to really make a statement!

pps. i want to make this my new collection idea each time i visit a place so if anyone knows if any glass makers or decorative shops worthy of a visit do let me know or even bead shops as they often sell great glass beads and i fancy making my own chandelier one day!

wow, this shop sounds like a right hidden gem and just the sort of shop i could spend all day in, just watching him work would be enough for me! i've made a note of his location, so when i'm over in a few weeks, i might have to do the dalyan trip, just so i can go to his shop. :D might have to take my shopping bag wiv wheels as i can see my arms stretching if not. lol

i'm sure many other tourists will appreciate u putting that on here as like u, i agree that its nice to support local good businesses.

i think its easier to do deals with them when buying at the start of season as they want to make money to buy more materials to make new stuff not just have stuff from previous yrs etc....maybe people think its not that way but i got the impression it works that way for some small makers etc....
i think he could do with more space to be honest!i wish i had a big property that i own to fill with these lovely things or to do comissions from my sketches etc...
im sure there are plenty of places similar else where but you know when you just like someone and they stick in your mind...well they did.
god one day id love to be a personal shopper..is that what they are called? to help people shop in places they visit...god id end up buying more stuff too! at last that would show i can do the job! :D

I too love glass and will certainly visit this shop when I'm in the area next.

I don't remember glass when I visited Skiathos and Skopelos back in 86, plenty of pots though.

I visited a fantastic glass shop/blower in Dinan (France). He made all sorts of fantastic figures and I bought a clear glass figure of a girl dancing with a scarf. Unfortunately it stayed with my ex. I'd love to replace her.
