Wednesday can't get here soon enough. I found a nice apartment with a great view of the sea! After looking and searching I finally made a decision. I am so ready to get settled and get out of this hotel. The walk to work will be about 20-30 minutes, but the daily exercise will be good for me. I should have internet up in a few days after moving in. Seems that advance set up is not something usually done here. Got out yesterday and explored routes to work and to other places to hang out.

:D

That's great Roy. It's good to have your own place especially with a sea view. :D
I take it that you have a residence permit then to get ADSL or don't US military personnel have to have one?

@Roy>Great--you've found/settled on a place. Hmm, what aggravation it was during my time frames. Trying to find all these places on your own can be tough. Yeah, the housing office provide you with a list but sometimes the journey's all throughout the area cities/providences can be rought, confusing, and very time consuming. That's a nice walk (20-30) minutes...should be fun. And as much as wnting to get out of the Hilton, It was certainy conveniant at time but there's nothing like getting your own place :D

Sunny, we have waivers for the time we are assigned here.

Lawman, The hotel is convienent. Looking forward to having more room, my own kitchen, laundry, refridgerator, balcony to relax on, etc. An apartment will feel like living here, hotel feels like a visitor still.

weather here today terrible raining all day with high winds.

Off to watch the super bowl at the club. Couple of american teachers coming to see it with me.

Congratulations, Roy! Sounds like a great place! I hope you'll postpone the housewarming until I can be there in March! :) Anyway it's good to hear that you're settling in and have a place for your own finally, I know you've been through the routine many times as I have.

All moved in!!! It's great to have my own space. Bushman over on Sunday for NASCAR. Got my hosehold items today. Now I can cook...have more than a few sets of clothes and shoes. Have plates and all those things you don't miss till you don't have them.

House warming early March after Ben gets back from the states

Great to hear that you've moved and are settling in.

Scooby I think NASCAR is some sort of motor racing.

Scooby,

They are right it is auto racing and the watching of the sport, in person or at home on the TV, could involve large doses of alcohol. It certianly did for us on Sunday.

Roy, first, congratulations for your 3 monts old settlement in a private appartment. hope you are still happy about it.
could you tell me, if it is true that appartments for rent are totally empty in Izmir? will we have to buy a fridge, a stove, furniture? whatever cheap they might be, we dont need to own them.
do you think we are able to find a furnished flat with wireless internet for reasonable price in the area suitable for two foreign ladies? [
...after some investigation it seems mission impossible ... :)

There are furnished apartments for rent but it depends on how much you want to pay and where in Izmir you want to live.
I will take a look in the morning to see if I can help you.

thank you, sunny. we don't know yet, what we prefer (better area or better price), but surely we wouldn't like to buy all that stuff. maybe we'd rather pay more or travel longer... thank you, indeed

Generally the apartments anywhere in Turkey are completely empty, and you have to buy just about everything, including light fixtures.

Have a look at this article I wrote:
