You can find them in and around Bodrum. Haven't been there in a while, so take a picture with you and ask.

I have seen Datura growing wild here. Datura and Brugmansia, are two related plants with trumpet-shaped flowers.

Datura's blossoms face up, while those of Brugmansia hang down in clusters.

I think it may be difficult to find them at this time of year as I've an idea that they die back in winter.

I would also like a Brugmansia for my garden. If your sister finds some Tiphereth could you let us know please?

thank you mitchmoud...i dunno where bordum is but i will ask around

sure sunny, whenever i put hand on this gorgeous tree, i will let u know...yeah they die back in winter but they always save cuttings before that...all we need is a tiny woody cutting.
i have daturas already, the white "inoxia" and the purple "metel".

what r ur fav plants?

My favourites here are ones that grow high enough that the tortoises can't eat them, bad tasting enough that the birds don't eat them, hard enough that the wood boring insects go elsewhere, tough enough that they survive months without water in the summer and like getting drowned and frozen in the winter. Oh, and aren't upset by my dogs peeing on them every now and then.

Not asking for too much....... am I?

:)

My favourites are fresias and I have a lot in my garden but they are all yellow even though I bought a mixed bag from Migros a few years back! They make a good show in the spring. I also love fushias and had some lovely ones back in the UK but I, and others have tried to grow them here but they always die off no matter where you put them in the garden or in pots.
For colour in the garden that will survive dogs and the elements are bougainvillea, solanum, rosemary and geraniums (pellagoniums(?)) I put in a few bedding plants in the summer and I have an agapanthus that is doing well in a big pot.

Hi and welcome to the TC forum..I'm a Turkish member living in Fethiye..I was thinking about your question, and a friend of mine who didnt have any idea about what was in my mind, told me today that her uncle living in Bodrum had a brugmansia in his garden..'Really?' I asked, 'where did he get it?' She said the seedling was sold in the open market place -called 'pazar'. I havent met any seedling sold here in Fethiye, neither I met any in the gardens, but I can check.
By the way, this plant is called 'patlıcan çiçeği - eggplant flower- around here.

cukurbagli Can you list those plants as I seem to have the same requirements as you. When it comes to gardening I need simple easy to grow weeds because I have no problem growing them.

I dont think that you can find cuttings for sale..
Another method of growing is to separate side stems and plant them. So I think the only chance is to meet someone who has one in his/her garden..
Yes, I too wonder why they call them so. It belongs to the family Solanaceae, just like eggplants..
But I should add something: even the name patlican çiçeği is local. Some people who dont know this name try to give it a name, or use the translation from English .

I have one in my garden in Datca. It is very common and my neighbours hate it, so do all my family. They say it is very poisonous and grows too big and is like a weed. I love it though and mine has large creamy yellow trumpet flowers. I must admit I have to cut it back frequently. It actually needs a lot of water in very hot weather or it won't flower much. When I give it loads every day buds form rapidly and grow faster. I bought mine as a small plant from a market stall about 4 years ago. It was in full flower when I last saw it in mid September. It was also in flower when I went there in March earlier this year and have also seen it in flower in February.

I love it too but everyone says it is very poisonous and it does get very big, I'm always cutting it back.
I got it from one of the stalls in the Saturday market but there is also a very nice garden centre called Mimosa (I think) in Eski Datca a few km's from Datca town. They have a huge one in the garden and I have seen them for sale. If your sister is in Datca when I am next year she can have loads of cuttings from me! At the moment I have trips planned for April and August but I hope to be there at other times too.
