If you have a Liquid Crystal Display computer screen (ie laptop or flat screen) here's a neat little trick to make your computer screen show the text in a clearer way.

First go to your normal desktop, right click and then click on [Properties].The Properties window will open.

Click on the [Appearance] tab



and then in the Appearance window click on the [Effects] button.



In the Effects window make sure the check box is ticked 'Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts' and click on the dropdown menu.



Select 'Clear Type' and click.



then click [OK]. Click on [OK] in the Appearance window and the effect is saved and implemented.

I've just done it. yes, I think I can see a difference.

I should have said that this doesn't affect text on websites and other programs, just Windows text, but it definitely makes my laptop easier to read.

Those effects can be normally set up on Installation of the operating system - it gives you the option for clear txt when doing a fresh install.

Anyone tried Windows 7 yet or pre ordered it for when its out? There are 2 versions Windows 7 x86 for 32bit machines and Windows 7 x64 for 64 bit (newer) machines. Cost around 100 quid on release in UK later in the year - October i think and also no IE 7 or 8 for any EU versions.

Wow, only 100 quid? I see they've made their money from Vista that's for sure. Vista was somthing like... an odd £300 when released. I refused to buy it and never did. Good ol' XP

I've got Java on my machine which keeps saying I can download an update but I don't even know what Java does. I tried looking it up but I was not enlightened. Mind you my patience/concentration level when reading about IT thingies is about the level of a gnat!

Yeah, they've gone back to numbers, just like the good ol' days. Windows 3.1 Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000. I think there going to be doing it like the Mac, and go up in numbers from now on. So the next next one will be Windows 8 etc. I think its better that way.

Hehe, well Java is used for things like, Flash Games or Online Chat Websites. You know, when you enter a chat room for a chess game online for example, it needs Java in order to work and show up on your screen.

I don't have the time or inclination to play on-line games. TC takes up all my spare time.
