I'd have liked to run a poll for this, but can't see the option? Anyway, in our resort of Altinkum it is rare to hear a german accent, and when we hear one its usually one of Turkish descent. I don't want to get into a debate of whether people like Germans or not, but am interested to know how other Turkish resorts compare.
Does your resort get have a lot of German visitors or inhabitants?

In Kaş we get lots from everywhere including Greeks coming from Meis for the market on Fridays. It's one of the things I like here, it's very cosmopolitan.

During the first 10 month of year 2008, 23.9 million tourist visited Turkey, and it was expected to reach 26 million at the end of the year..
Each year the number of tourists arrive increas by 10-15 % of the previous year.
During the first 10 month of 2008, German toursits were leading by 4 million, Russia was second by 2 million768, and UK was third by 2 million 86 thousand tourists.
It's seems as though every country has tour operators that have plot of land where they would like/prefer to send their citizens. (much probably depends on business contracts with resorts therefore they are guiding)
Germans seem to prefer the resorts in mediterranien region whereas Brits go on the aegean side of the country..
But of course you can always see any people anywhere..

Zehar, How many Americans make it to Turkey each year? Everyone who I know who have visited here LOVES Turkey. I am thinking word of mouth will have an impact soon. This is a great place for a vacation or longer.

Hi Alice,
I think 9/11 had a lot of impact on tourist coming here from US.( to muslim countries in general, I think)
It is not in the article but I read somewhere that the figure for 2008 was around 679.000.
So the article stars like;
The number of American tourists visiting Turkey in 2007 numbered 646,376. In 2006 the number had been lower at 532,419, thus indicating a 21.4 percent increase over the year. In 2005, 434,991 people had visited, an even lower number.....

Click "Edit," then select "Full Edit," you'll see a link there which says "manage this topic's poll." I should have appeared when you started the topic, just under the topic description near the top. If it's not showing up, let me know...

In Cesme we get quite a lot of German tourists, some who come back year after year, besides the ones that live and have bought houses here. They seem to prefer the Ilica area.

There were a lot of German and European visitors when we stayed in Side. So much so that the signs outside shops were in German, and we would be greeted with 'Guten Abend' rather than Good Evening. German was spoken more widely than English.
I actually found this quite a pleasant change....... my German is quite good, so for once it was my Turkish husband being left out of the conversations! It's usually me that can't keep up with the Turkish.

...........I too have visited Side and Alanya and found both area's display German and Turkish on their boards, with no English, also the prices are mostly in Euro........unlike you sirin, I didn't find it pleasant at all, infact it made me feel less invited to the area, it made me feel the preferred tourist was German.......... and to be honest because of this it's put me off a little visiting again........ I loved Alanya and would really like to visit again, but it does put me off......... we also considered moving out to Antalya/Alanya permanently but again, the preference to Germans puts both me and my Husband off..........
......I know this probably isn't true, and understand that because Germans have been frequent visitors of the more southern destinations, then any other, and that more keep on coming, that the locals probably feel more obliged to write everything in German for their benefit........... but what about the thousands of British tourists who take their holidays in these area's, do we not count for anything.
......I also understand that a German person may feel the same as myself when visiting, say Bodrum or somewhere else westerly of the country, and that not all languages can be displayed to please everyone, but isn't English supposed to be the language of all, it's the only language that no matter where you go in the world you will hear someone speaking it....
