These children, maximum age 15 brave much stronger winds than I would like to face in their tiny sailing dinghys.

A new record 255 sailors from 54 countries are assembled in Cesme on the west coast of Turkey for the 46th Optimist World Championship. First time participants include Bahrain, one of three Gulf states represented, and FYR Macedonia.

A nice article - thank you. My family all enjoy sailing and my sons both learnt in Optomists when they were small. I have very happy memories of them sailing along when they were about 4 and 6 with their noses poking over the top of the boat and big smiles on their faces. Hubbie was tootling along behind them in a Laser. What a lovely experience for all those young people to get together to enjoy a sport.
