My US passport runs out this year so I'll need to renew here in Turkey. Does anyone have experience of doing this now the passports have gone biometric? Costs, procedure and how long it takes would all be welcome information!

Hi Laura,
For some reason I'd always thought you had British nationality! You should probably call the US Consular Agent in Izmir, at:
0232 464 8755. They don't have an actual consulate in Izmir any more, but they do have someone there to assist on these things.
I got mine done in Adana a few years ago, as I recall, it was just a matter of taking my old passport there, filling out some forms, and paying the fee. I don't recall how much time it took to get the new one, I don't know if they used the biometric system then or not... there didn't seem to be anything extra I had to do.

Hey look, it worked!..hi Laura...i think Ben would be the best one to ask ,also being american
Ben, I'm a lady of much depth - I've actually got dual nationality! Not sure what I'll be allowed to do if I want to get Turkish as well...
Thanks for the note - that sounds pretty similar to my recollection of getting one in London. Mind you, on the application it implies you can apply by post - I will have to call the number you've given and find out... watch this space!
