I'm coming to Turkey in September from the US. I want to bring a gift to our travel agent there since he has been so very helpful in planning our trip. Can you give me some appropriate gift ideas that don't take alot of space in suitcase. Thank you

I think a T shirt would be best. The Eau de cologne would be alright but only if you knew the person well and knew what they liked,

A t-shirt or baseball cap is what I used to bring to family and friends here, preferably something with an LA or NYC logo on it. Brought bacanak a UCSB t-shirt one year as the colors more or less match those of Fenerbahçe, of which he is a fan -- he dug it

Yeah a good branded t-shirt or cap is spot on for me.
The genuine stuff is very expensive over here.

I brought some nice carved, wooden bookmarks with a quote from Thomas Jefferson on them ("I cannot live without books.") when I came last year. They didn't take up space or weight and were well recieved.

The problem with bookmarks is that very few Turks read.

Well I mostly just know university professors...so it worked for me. My point though, was to find something special and American but that doesn't scream AMERICA.

Well if you were handing them to Uni. Profs then I'm not surprised at them being well received.
Travel agents (and I know a few) are a different kettle of fish...i'd say you still you have time to buy something like a fashion item.
I know of one person, who incidentally works in Tourism, who walks around most days in the most monumentally crap pair of ripped/faded jeans. Her reason for wearing them so much...."they came from America".
