Hello all Posted Image I am an American citizen married to a Turk(2 yrs) in Istanbul. I recently got my residence permit book. And even though the place is far from where we live, the 2 trips there and the process overall was pretty painless. However, I have a son (8) from a previous relationship who also needs a residence permit. I thought I could do it at the same time as mine, or that they could add him to my book. But they told me because he holds his own passport, and that he has no blood relation to Turkey, he will need a separate appointment. Unfortunately the next available appointment is 4 months from now, and that puts us way past his 90 day sticker visa. I have all his custody documents, birth certificate, everything all translated to Turkish, plus all the other necessary things we need. But I also saw on his appointment application that we will need $300 in a bank for every month he wants to stay here ?? Plus I know there will be a fee for staying past the 90 days.....Has anyone else had any experience in this type of situation? Do we really have to show $300 times every month he will stay here in a bank account, even though he is a minor that my husband will be supporting(I don't work)?? Thank you so much in advance to any feedback.

Welcome to our forum and sorry for the late reply. Someone else was asking the same question recently about his Tourist Visa expiring before his appointment and I found the quote below on the Istanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü Yabancılar Büro website.

"The date of the appointment arranged on the e-appointment system is considered as the application date and the person will be considered to have applied even when Visa period or Resident Permit terminates before the appointment date"

To be on the safe side I would ring the Buro and ask them if it still applies as rules do change all the time here and they aren't always quick to change their websites.

I can't answer your question about money for your son as different buro's have different rules so you would need to clarify it with them again.

Here is a link to the Buro website

Thank you so much for your reply. I actually got my son a new appointment with the correct application (Child of Parent Holding Residence Permit) instead. There is no $300 per month of stay required in a bank account, because he is my dependent, and I was told he will cost about half as much as mine. I will just keep my fingers crossed that everything goes as smooth as mine did at his appointment. :)

Thanks for the update as that will be good information for other people in the same situation. I did know it would be half of what you paid but didn't know about the $300 per month.

Just a bit of information. When the time comes for you to renew your son's RP, if your son goes to a state school once he has been there for 1 year you need to get a letter/form from the school just before you renew. If you show the paperwork from the school you will find that they won't charge you anything. However, if he goes to a private school I believe they will charge you, although as you say it will be half price.
