Lake Salda in Turkey’s Mediterranean region is known to be one of two places in the world which has the same rock structure as Mars. The lake also draws interest from visitors and tourists from abroad because of its white sand, which is caused by magnesium in its water

Lake Salda in the town of Yeşilova tucked away in the Mediterranean province of Burdur is one of two places in the world which are said to have similar rock structures as the planet Mars. The lake aslo draws attention for its white sandy beach.

Located four kilometers outside of Yeşilova, the lake, which has crystal clear water, is the deepest in the country with a depth of 184 meters. Nestled amongst the Toros Mountains the lake is 193 meters above sea level. The lake’s water, which has crater features, is rich in magnesium and clay and the lake’s beach has turned a beautiful white due to the magnesium in its waters. Lake Salda is a first degree archeological site and a tourism center.

Yeşilova is near to the town I live now. It is a typical small, lovely Burdur town, where I visit sometimes. Local people say, Lake Salda has a connection with the Lake Burdur. I din't find any official verification, but, people say its connection was proved, by throwing a coloured pack of hay into the lake which ended up in Lake Burdur. It is one of the deepest lakes of Turkey (184 meters), although it has a relatively small surface (47 square meters).(Its height above the sea level is 1193 meters, not 193)
Swimming in this mysterious Lake Salda is dangereous because of whirlings..If true, the pack of hay must have been swallowed by one of those whirlings!Posted Image

Probably the camels you saw were brought there for an organization of so-called 'camel wrestling'. Normaly camels are not part of animal husbandry. The last time I saw them I was in Fethiye. A group of huge, proud looking camels made a tour on the street, before the wrestling started. ..

No, these camels were resident for a year or more as we saw them on several occasions. I do remember enjoying the camel wrestling in the stadium at Ephesus a few years ago though. Actually now that I think it was 25 years ago. No damage to the animals I hasten to add
