Following the said draft becomes law upon the decision of the parliament; foreigners will be able to purchase property from all sides of Turkey provided that they comply with the legal limitations.

I see that article was dated 25th May, I was hoping it would have been more recent. Whilst the President signed the bill off he left it to the cabinet to decide the detail. This then resulting in the opposition parties resisting the bill as reported in this link. Parliament is now in recess and will won't convene again until 1st October 1, so I'm wondering if we won't hear anything now for a while. As always it seem to be a case of watching the news and reading the papers.

Whilst Parliment is shut it seems that things still carry on and in this case not for the good.


CHP appeals law allowing land sale to foreigners


The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has applied to the Constitutional Court to cancel a law that changes the title deed law to ease restrictions regarding the sale of land to foreigners.


After submitting a petition to the court on Thursday, CHP Mersin deputy Ali Rıza Öztürk told reporters that law No. 6302 changes Article 35 of law No. 2644 on title deeds, paving the way towards unrestricted sales of land to foreigners in the future...

To be honest I feel that there should be restrictions and some control over who can buy what where but once the areas have been designated then the process should be able to be completed quickly and easily.

Today I heard from some Europeans - Brits - that their purchasing process was accepted at the tapu authorities last week. very interesting and strange!

Hello Everyone,

I am Nicky from France. I started my deed application process through an official real estate agency mid of Feb 2012. Beginning of May 2012 I was told my deed was ready but when I arrived in Turkey the famous law was published in the meantime and everything has been suddenly blocked. Since then I could not obtain any further information neither from the local deeds office nor from the main deeds office in Ankara despite my many attempts. Dear Jade I would be very interested if you could get more detailed information about those who said their purchasing process was recently accepted.

I am just surprised that not more people/real estate agencies are complaining about the situation since probably a lot of real estate transactions are currently blocked exactly in the middle of the high-season period - meaning many foreigners might reconsider switching their investment to other countries if situation was to last even longer.

If you are in a situation like I am, you might also report your complaint to the Main Deeds Office in Ankara (they reply by email within 2-3 days). Probably it will contribute to alert them on the serious situation caused .

Welcome to the forum Nicky.
It is certainly very frustrating and bad practise not to have got this law sorted out before the old one lapsed. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later that they get it sorted out.

I'm afraid I'm not in contact with the Brits as I think they've departed from here in the meantime. This was just a one-off I believe so you'll just have to wait until the new law comes into being. Patience!
