Right, I thought I was clear about all of this, but I'm not sure I am haha.

Now, I don't need to get my residency until February, due to me not going over again till then, but what do I do to actually get one?

In 2009, I got one with my parents, and we just literally went to the police station in Aydin, took the documents in etc and then a week later went to collect them - this is what I can remember anyway. But now I'm really confused. Do I need to make an appointment to get my residency? Or do I still just go on any day?

I know I don't need to worry about any rental deeds, tapus or bank statements as I'm married to a Turkish man, which does make this a lot easier in one sense, but like I said, I'm so confused as to whether I need to make an appointment before hand or not, and if so, when I go in February and make an appointment, do you think my appointment will be before the 3 months are up on my visa or will it go over that time? And if it does, would I be better making an appointment a couple of months before I go over?

Sorry, so many questions lol!

Libby, first of all are you going to get your RP in Izmir or Marmaris. If you get it in Izmir you don't need an appointment and doubt whether you would need one in Marmaris. but if you are going to get it there just check with the Police there.

The only place I know that you have to make an appointment is in Istanbul, so it won't be a problem for you.

You can only apply Monday through Friday and they will close for lunch. Kaan will have to go with you when you apply for your Residents Permit.

Think I might get it in Izmir and then just change my address once we get to Marmaris, so I'm not worrying about it. Ah okay, thank you so much! Takes a weigh off of my mind.

Ah yeah, Kaan will be going with me anyway, let him do most of the talking lol.

Libby you are worrying too much for nothing, Posted Image

If you get your RP from Izmir, When you get there you will have to go through a security post. You then need to walk across a court yard heading for the right hand side, actually you can't miss the building.. When you go inside you will go through security again. When you have been security take a couple of steps and look right and you will see a lift.

You need to go to the second floor.

When you get out of the lift turn right and go through the door which will take you into the main office. You will see a long counter in front of you as you walk through the door, Turn right and go to the end of the counter where a woman will be sitting. Tell her you want to get an RP, she will give you the form and a number. The form is standard and is used by everyone. After you have got the form and number go out the door and you will see a counter across the other side of the waiting area where you can fill out your form.

You then wait in this area until your number is displayed on an overhead board.

I hope you don't get the man I had because he is very slow. Once he/she has looked at your paperwork you will have to go and pay for your RP. The person dealing with your application will send you to another person further along the left hand side of the counter. They will give you some paperwork that you have to take to pay for the RP. You will have to go out of the building to do this, it isn't very far as it is just across the courtyard on the right hand side, they will tell you where it is.

Hand the man your paperwork. The cost of the RP although it is quoted in dollars will be converted at whatever the conversion rates is for lira on that day, plus 172 tl for the blue RP book.

When he has done all that he will give you a receipt. You then need to go back to the office and see the person dealing with your application and hand them the receipt. There is no need to get another number just walk back into the office and go straight to the person. If they are dealing with someone else just stay where you are. They will normally stop serving the person and see to you.

Once you have been sorted out they will give you a number. Don't lose the number as you will need to hand it in when you collect your RP.

Take copies of

the picture page of your passport and also copy the page which shows when you last entered Turkey,

Copy your wedding book page showing your photo's and information of where and when you married.

Kaan ID card

You and Kaan will need to take photo's as well. I think they want 4 but take a couple more just in case.

When I was in Sumsun we also had to get a print out from the Nufus place to confirm we were living there. So Kaan needs to register you as living there because he is probably already registered.

If I have missed anything out can someone please correct me. It might be a good idea to phone the police department and ask them what paperwork they want to be on the safe side before you go.

Do not lose your RP because even though it on record that you applied for and got one, if it needs to be replaced they can charge you the full amount again to replace it. Probably best to photo copy it and carry that round with you and keep the RP some where safe at home.

You can expect a visit from the police who just check out where you are living and maybe talk to your family and possibly neighbours as well. I know it happened to a couple of people who live in Izmir.

Probably best to go first thing in the morning or straight after lunch.

Remember that when you move to Marmaris you will have to go and get the address changed in your RP within two days of having moved.

Oh gosh, can't remember any police visits last time, but at least we'll be staying at his sister's house in Izmir, and everybody in Buca knows me now :)

The pictures me and Kaan need to take....are they the small ones that are used for kimliks etc?

Thank you for all this information, writing it all down! :D

And I know Cukurbagli, going to do that the same day we get to Marmaris so it's sorted :)
