Hello All
I am looking for advice and require a lawyer in Uk who can help.
4 years ago I paid a deposit on a off plan apartment in Didum . It is a 4 block site, now our agent in Didum saying the builder has finance problems and now no more work is being done.
Our agent have been useless. They say the land owner is not releasing any Tapus. Also the receipt for the deposit the agent gave me is dated days before I sent the money , which was to a bank in Didum, making me think the money wasn't given to the builder.
I require a honest lawyer who can give me advice on whether I can get any money back.
Thank you
Paul

Welcome to our forum Paul. I'm afraid I can't be of much help as I don't live in that area but if you look at the Alinkum and Didim forum you may find some information that will be of use to you.
We wouldn't be able to recommend UK lawyers but the British Embassy in Ankara has a list of English speaking lawyers in Turkey.

Sorry to hear of your problems Paul.
Do note, that the lawyers listed by the Bristish Embassy are not recommended by the British Embassy, it is just a list collated of lawyers practising in Turkey who claim to speak English. I contacted some of them from that list and apparently "English-speaking" does not include English-writing.
We chose a lawyer recommended by someone who had won his case similar to ours. As Sunny suggests, have a look at the information on the regional forums. If you choose a lawyer in the UK, she/he would have to have very good knowledge of Turkih property law.

Don't know how much you paid as a deposit but it may cost you more in lawyers fees to get it back. The is a firm in London called London Legal International, they are handling a large amount of clients from the Golden Beach complex in Altinkum. They are Turkish lawyers who speak English but I can't say if they are good or not.

hello there,
sorry to hear about your problems in Didim which happen a lot here in Turkey unfortunately.
I know that you wrote that you are seeking a lawyer in the UK but it would make the whole process easier if you used the services of a Turkish lawyer as the laws here are very different to those in the UK.
I am also leading a court case here and have been for the past 2 years and because a witness has to testify for me now who is in the UK the whole court case is NEVER-ENDING!!!!
I Know of an excellent lawyer here in Antalya (I know it would be more practical in Didim) who specializes in real estate law. She studied in London for a few years.
Her name is Ceyda Yarlıgaçlı and her phone number is 0090 242 316 81 62
and her mobile number is 0090 537 256 40 77
She's a tough cookie and I'm sure she can help you. Please let me stress again that court cases do take a long time to be solved in Turkey and you need damn good nerves to go through this stress!!!(I know - not been there but am experiencing this myself here).
Hope this has been of help to you,
Jade
PS I am myself a real-estate agent and get to hear a lot of similar horror stories to your own.
