I have never forgotten that poor young girl.

A court has sentenced the father and grandfather of a 16-year-old girl who was found dead after having been buried alive in her family's backyard in 2009 to aggravated life imprisonment.

As the army had to step in and move them to stop the people of Adiyaman lynching them İ wonder if they may have an uncomfortable time in jail.
Never forget the chap who killed the german girl in Alanya after four years he was found hanged in his cell.

I hadnt heard about this, its so sad and great justice that they have been imprisoned for life. I dont know what goes through the mind for a father let alone grandfather to do such despicable things!!! xx

I was horrified when I saw the photos of the hole where they buried the poor girl. Pity these men could not be sealed in a pit and left to rot.

It's a tragedy that should never of happened. It has been said that before she died that the poor.girl went to the police begging for protection because of the violence she was being subjected at home but they ignored her. If it's true shame on them, I don't know how they can sleep at night.

Here is the article from the Telegraph reporting the gruesome story for those who have not read it. http://www.telegraph...ng-to-boys.html
Not only did she repeatedly report her beatings to the police but sought refugee three times at the police station and three times she was sent home! I have always wondered why the child's mother and other female relatives did not try to help her.

like others who have posted here I have often thought of Medine Memi and her tragic life and death maybe there is hope of societal change in the prosecution and sentencing of those guilty of this crime of dishonour, this will be a better world if this change can be her legacy and she is remembered

"To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

Aston, you wonder why the female members of her family didn't try to help her, well, with males with mentality like that, they were probably ruled with an iron fist and were probably beaten into submission or unfortunately, were too frightened to help.

As a child of a society without divorce or contraception, where marital rape was not recognised, where women were barred from working after marriage or could be institutionalised indefinitely by their families if suspected of premarital sex regardless of it this was consensual, (Ireland in the 70s) I think that maybe somethings go beyond gender or even the individual. Societies can create conditions and mentalities that allow these atrocities. Please understand I don't mean by this to excuse anybody involved in this case. The fact that we are hearing of this and similar cases and that they are being punished may show that there is a shift and that hopefully these acts may cease but unfortunately I don't think it will be soon.

You are right aine, some women are just as capable of being evil but in many cases are cowed into submission rather than being evil.
Aderb I had no idea that the situation was like that in Ireland. You make a good point about it being about society creating the conditions. You can also look at female circumcision which is carried out by the female members of those societies in the belief that the girls will be unmarriageable if it's not carried out.

I seem to remember when it was first reported that the girl also asked Police for help for her mother as she too was being subjected to violence.
