This morning Sunny rang me with the very sad news that Mimosa, who has been a member of our forum since 2007 had died this morning.

I only meet Jill (Mimosa) 3 months ago when I moved down here. Jill was someone who you warmed to straight away. Jill was a very kind, gentle warm soul who has been battling with various types of cancer over the last few years and therefore wasn't a frequent poster.

I can only say although I only sadly met her 3 times she was one of those people who has left a lasting impression on me. Although very ill when I first met her she made me feel very welcome and included in the gathering.

She will be sadly missed not only by her English/Turkish family and friends but by members such as Sunny, Dande and his partner also Merel who spent many many happy hours in her company.

To Jill I can only say you were a very brave lady who battled until the end who never complain and only thought of others. It was a honour to have known you and the world will be a sadder place without you, but I'm glad you are no longer suffering in pain anymore.

RIP dear Jill xxxxx

Thank you for posting that Abi.
Yes, She was a lovely, brave lady who fought cancer for several years but was always positive and cheerful.
She will be sorely missed.

She is Gone
You can shed tears that she is gone,
Or you can smile because she lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what she would want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

I've just returned from the funeral and wake. There must have been at least 100+ people there including the Mayor and Govenor plus a few famous singers and society people. Jill was very popular because she was a lovely lady, who never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was always cheerful in spite of all the chemotherapy and pain.

From your kind words and praise, she indeed must have been a wonderful person to know. I wish I could have had the honor of conversing with her here on TC. My condolences and hugs go out to her family and all those at TC who were close to her.

Sunny, Abi, Dande, Meral and to all the others I am so sorry to hear about Jill. I got told on Wednesday in Turkish class and by Jills daughter in law.

Jill sounded like a very brave and lovely lady. She can now finally rest in peace out of all pain.

R.İ.P Mimosa/Jill. Thoughts are with all her family and friends xxxx

Oh I'm so very sorry to hear this. I loved her contributions here, and met her briefly. A lovely lady.

God has seen fit to call Jill and Soo up to Heaven at a similar time. So sad for us, but I pray they're peaceful and pain free now.

I remember that day when Jill and I met you at Ibo's, it was a lovely sunny day but Jill was already struggling.

Yes, I hope they are both resting in peace after their long battles.

Ms dande & I have only just returned to Turkey from a three-month holiday and now wish to add to the tributes to our friend, Jill. During our absence, both sunny and Jill’s daughter kept us informed of her condition and it soon became clear that her initial partial recovery was not to be maintained.

Jill was a very dear and special friend. We enjoyed so many happy times together, often with other friends – at our homes, swimming or just relaxing at the beach. She was a kind, generous, fun-to- be-with person and in the last few months dealt with her illness with courage, determination and, for the most part, positive thoughts.

It is often said you have many acquaintances throughout your life, but only a few real friends. We were privileged to have Jill as a dear and valued friend.

During games of Rummikub, Jill often used to say, “I never win”. She did, of course, but it became an amusing catch phrase,

We are just so sorry she didn’t win this one.

And I add my tribute here , belatedly. Sunny and I last visited Jill just a few days before she died, and we managed to speak to her briefly although she was tied and weak. I told her I was leaving for the UK and promised to come & see her upon my return, but sadly, it was not to be. We attended her funeral -- so many people !!!! And I departed the next day.

Miss you Jill, and I'll keep my promise ! Posted Image XXX
