Hi, Does any one know if we can register a new car in joint foreign names? my partner and I want to buy a new car, we are in the process of getting our resident permits which i know we need so we get the ID number. If we were married we could register the car in one of our names and the husband or wife would be able to drive, however even though we are a family; my partner is Bulgarian and i am English and we live in Izmir with our little girl, it seems in Turkey because we are not married we are not recognised as a family. So thats why i need to find out if its possible to register the car in two names, otherwise a car bought by a foreigner is only for the registered owner to drive. Also i read that we need to have our passport translated and notorised to register the car, even though we will have our residence books and id number by then, is this true?

Welcome to our forum Clarebelle. Honestly I think you best option is to ask at the place you will register the car. The only reason I say that is because every area is different even though the same rules should apply. Yes you are right even though you are in a long term relationship and have a child you aren't considered to be a family.

I'm sorry I've been so long getting back to you but I had rather a hectic week last week.

Anyway the answer to the question, 'Can you register your car in two names'? The answer, according to the traffic police in Cesme is YES.

Thanks so much! That's great news. I'm just in the process of getting my residence permit then will hopefully be able to buy a car. By the way I am sure you have heard of IWAI?

Yes, I've heard of them Clarabelle but I've never been to any of their meetings.

Thank you for the invitation to contribute. If I think of anything I'll let you know. I think you will be able to find a lot of ideas for the magazine from posts on the forum.
I'm sure you've covered the new 90/180 day visa and the new health insurance scheme. There are threads on both of those on the forum.

Also, if you'd like to mention Turkey Central forum in your newsletter, we'd be very pleased.

Hiya. Yes of course I will mention it. You should come to one of our meetings or dinners if you have time. I only usually manage the dinners as i'm working from home in the daytime. Great i'll have a look through the forum for some inspiration! Yes we will mention the insurance thing. The latest seems to be that we (Brits) don't need to join the scheme which is great news.

Yes, that's right, but if you are a retired couple it's good value for money compared to private insurance where the premiums go up as you age and go sky high if you get some long term illness, if they will continue to cover you at all.

The trouble is I live in Cesme and it's a long drive back so you can't drink. Maybe one day you'll have a meeting in Cesme?
