Hi everyone, I'm a 20 year old university student and I'd like to go into journalism when I finish studying. I have just been offered a job sourcing stories for women's magazines and this would be a great first step for me.

I was wondering if anyone had a moving, shocking or thought provoking story to share? I'm open to any ideas, I'm not looking to offend anyone and of course everything will be kept confidential if the magazine does not choose to take the story on. I've been to Turkey loads of times and love the place and I know everyone has an experience to share. You will be paid a decent fee, the amount of which is decided by the level of interest in your story.

You can reply to me privately and if not then thanks for taking the time to read this :)

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm really just looking for interesting stories of any nature that would appeal to magazine readers although the sad fact is negative stories do tend to generate more interest. However I'm also looking for sad or life-changing experiences, good and bad.

Lizaliza, I've just sent you a private message- hope I've done it right because I'm still getting used to how this site works! :)

Always be on the ball!
I've lived in this country full-time since 1995. Before that I commuted between Germany and Istanbul for several years.
I'm a trained English and German teacher and translator and have worked at several schools here in Turkey and am now running an estate agency together with my Turkish-German business partner.
I love this country and wouldn't like to live anywhere else. Over the years I've travelled to several parts of the world and Turkey is my favourite country.
However, despite the Turks being very hospitable and friendly, I have learnt that you always have to be on the ball and somewhat apprehensive and cautious when building friendships. It usually seems that the Turks are out to "get something" from you - be it a favour or money.
For those people who are interested in buying property in Turkey I would recommend caution too. Please make sure that the company is honest (something easier said than done) and make sure all transactions are notarized by a public notary. We've all seen these horror stories on TV back in England about people being ripped off buying property here. The problem is that several so-called estate agents sell property which is NOT theirs to sell in the first place. They can show you a plot of land but how can you know whether it's really for sale or not? The answer is to check the title deeds at the local title deeds office, but without speaking Turkish this is not an easy task to do.
You don't need a lawyer when purchasing property in Turkey, but I would recommend you having a lawyer to check over the documents to make you feel surer about the transaction - but make sure that the lawyer is not a relative of the estate agent or working on commission.
May I invite you to take a look at my website where you can find lots of information about Turkey and watch some fantastic video clips. There you can find information about buying property as well:

(excuse me if I've posted this twice by mistake but I can't find the original version I sent this morning!!!)
